D16a6 = SOHC nonvtec
D16z6 = SOHC vtec .
you were dooped by the seller. look on the side of the ECU. it should read somthing PM6 somthing. as for the converting to MPFI. just search it up. you'll find PLENTY. not sure about the auto to manual converting. never done it. nor do i want to. id rather buy a MT honda civic becuase its that cheap.

it was my fault, the seller didn't really verify if it was for a vtec engine or not and i could have done my research a little more he said it was for a 88 crx SI and i thought the SI came with a vtec engine on the side of the ecu it says PM6-A041
this was the auction
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...&rd=1

so was there a vtec engine that ran obd-0?

and as for converting to a manual me and a buddy of mine did it on his 93 hatch it was rather simple

the OP was asking if there was an OBD0 engine that was vtec. The answer is yes, like ef yu posted. but you are right the pm6 is not a vtec ecu.

damn, you beat me to it ef yu.... lol

thanks for your guys's help so far but let me rephrase my question when i asked "was there a vtec engine that ran obd-0?"

i mean was there a D series vtec engine that ran obd-0?

and also what ECU would go with it

I don't know of any OBD0 VTEC D engines, but you could do the mini-me like you talked about. That would allow you to use OBD0 and have VTEC. As for the ECU, you could use the PM6 (with an MPFI modded harness) and trigger the solenoid with an RPM switch or chip your ECU to use the A/C clutch for VTEC.

convert to obd1, it's easy, better and it will help you immeasurably if you ever get it tuned. tuning an obd0 is a bitch. good luck with the swap
