Do you know if your lower gears have been replaced at all? Usually they would wear out much quicker.</TD></TR></TABLE>
Its actually very common. Most of the time its from people who don't check their fluid levels. They end up running it low and the top gears(5ths and 4ths) heat up due to a lack of adequate lubrication. So this creates scarring and makes it difficult to shift because the parts are no longer smooth and free. I have also just plain seen them worn out! People tend to rest their hand on the shifter in 5th gear while cruising. Well that will put some pressue on the insides and wear things out over time. Crack it open and check it out

i would try putting in the GM synchromesh friction moddified first....if it is a small grind, it should help it... if you have the the time and money though, just get it fixed.

Getting a shop to do it is cheaper?
Anyhow, replace your syncro before you end up having to replace the gear. Using syncromesh or something similar is just going to cover it up....it won't fix it.
