I think Accords might be the most solid cars built by Honda, even though all their cars are solid. The only issue is with the V6 transmissions, but apart from that, they are ALL STRONG, RELIABLE cars. As in everything, it has to be well maintained, and treated properly by the previous owner, but in general, take two cars, Accord and any other, treat them the exact same abuse, and the accord will probably last longer.

You have the years confused. The 'square shaped' Accord ran from 90-93. The shape changed from 94-97. Both of these year group share tons of similar parts, mainly the body changed somewhat. They are all strong and reliable. Of course, as cars age, certain other things might go wrong, like power windows might stop working, door locks might stop working, little annoyances.

I am indifferent to the car that you are asking about. If it is a 1990 model, I would probably not get it with that kind of milage. If it is 95, then I probably would get it. WIth 200,000 miles, you are beginning to approach the average high lifespan. I exect my Accord to last to a minimum of 250,000 miles, and hope that it make it to over 300,000. I would try to get the price down to at least $1,500 or even $1,300, then I'd think about it more. With a car getting old, things break, so make sure you have money to fix random stuff that you do not expect. I would say $500 is a good safety net of money to fix random stuff that might come up.

first you didnt state what year make model the car was...2nd 202xxx is alot a miles but motors for that car are a dime a dozen if you have the capacity to swap the motor out yourself
3rd you wouldn't want a reliable DD that you may have to swap a motor in soon
4th see first...

I think you could get something nicer for 1700 that is a little steap...I found my brothers car a 91 Accord ex with Konig rims Skunk2 lowering springs JDM sidemarkes and tint with 127xxx on it for 1250...I highly reccomend to keep on looking yes those I belive f22a6? a4? motors run fine well over 200xxx miles with proper mantiance but thats like hmmmm bragging about dating a supermodel whos 60!! get what I'm saying...and IMO I highly suggest that if you plan on doing any modifacations I higly reccomend that you get a manual transmission and if you don't know how to drive a 5 speed learn......but this is your car your choice..Im jsust interjecting my input.....

To sum it up if it was me I wouldnt buy it

cool your taking car of dad......the only thing I would be worried about would be the milage on the motor and transmission..Id try and find one with lower miles......or tale him down to like 1300ish or lower.....

Tricks to get cars for cheap

COLD HARD CASH IN HAND...really good line I use "look dood...I can either walk away with this money, or I can walk away with that car" talked a guy with a 94 ex accord from 4500 to 3000 lol

Acting like you know more abotu the car then him Sometime this pisses the seller off as he think your lowballing him..some appriciate a thourough consumer

Telling him its for you dad
he may have a big heart

OR tell the truth...It's a real nice car but I dont have that much cash and this is what I do have.....

Hope any of what I stated helps dood cheers

i had a 90 Accord DX, Automatic... Quite possibly my favorite car that ive ever owned..

I got the car for free, from my grandparents neighbor, i got it, had to put in a radiator and a new hood, before i got it registered and everything, i got all new brakes new rotors calipers and pads in the front, and new drums and shoes and cylinders in the rear, did a full tune up, oil change, trans fluid change, radiator fluid change..

And i got the car with 130k on it ( old man driven)

and i had it until it was 160k, the ONLY problem And pretty much all accords from 90-93 is the distributor, the go bad sometimes with no symptoms, u can park your car one night and the next day itl coul be bad, just like that..

Ive known at least 15 people with accords between 90-93 and everyone of them had to replace there distributors... they just go bad

I loved my accord, i loved the interior and i loved the outside, i love the way it handled and everything.

Well maintained Hondas (fluid changes mainly), can last up to 300k. and i have a 90 integra with 300k as proof

Dont get that one. I got my 96 for 1500 and my car is immaculate. No dents everything functional. I failed inspection because the wiper blades were not good and thats it. I would look for something newer. Nonetheless if you want it go and get it. It's just my two cents.

Accords are VERY dependable. SO many stories... A 60 year old guy at my work who retired 2 weeks ago drove his accord to work and home 5days a week and 100 miles a day. HIs vehicle has 356,000 miles on it. He just keeps it maintained w/ fresh oil changes, timing belt/water pump every 80k miles, battery, spark plugs, etc. They're very good cars. My fiance' and I just traded her 1998 Honda Passport for a 1999 Honda Accord EX w/ 117,000 miles and we love it. Very smoothe vehicle. As for 1990 - 1995's, I believe the 93-96 are the more curvy looking Accords and the 90-93 are the boxier ones. However, I think both of them look nice.

the 90-93 (4th Gen) are the boxier ones. The 94-97 (5th Gen) are the slightly more curvier ones(94-95 and 96-97 have slightly different styles due to the taillights, grill, front bumper lip and rear bumper lip).

Bought my 96 Accord in '03 w/ 86k on it. Now it's got 154k. Only non-routine maintenance problem was getting the radiator replaced in '05. Quiet ride, good gas mileage, adequate power for city and highway driving. I like it much more than the Saturn I had before it.

accords are one of the best cars ever created.

i bought my 95 accord lx for $1,550 but the guy really wanted $2,000 for it, it also had 194,000 miles when i bought it and now i have just over 200,000.

and expect the little things to get mess up, my windows were not working and now all of a sudden they work fine.

and for getting it, the only way i would get it is if it was the 94-97 body

I bought my 91 Accord Dx a year and a half ago. 191k at the time for $2400. The car now has around 221k on the motor and body. I never really had any really bad probs. Great car. It also has seen some track time
