That is correct. Twice ive gotten a CEL from a stupid gas attendant not putting the cap on tight enough. NJ you dont pump your own gas, lol

Fuel supply code is one of the shittiest, hardest codes to pin down and fix right the first time because it's so vague.
A list of potential fuel supply problem code culprits:
Fuel pressure - regulator or pump
Fuel injectors
Fuel filter
Main relay
Oxygen sensor
Valve adjustment (buring too lean/rich due to loose/tight valves)
ECU itself
...and they're not really in any particular order. Add to that the fact that you've got an engine swap in a car and there could be another list of potential items starting with wiring, and you can see how this may be impossible to e-diagnose through this forum.
The FIRST thing to do is check the fuel pressure, or have it checked. If you're unfamiliar of how to do this it requires a special tool (fuel pressure gauge and adapter fitting to hook the gauge into the fuel filter) then take the car to shop that knows Hondas and Acuras.
The pressure should be roughly 40-48psi at idle with the vacuum hose disconnected at the regulator and pinched off - it should be 32-38 or so while the vacuum hose is connected at idle.
From there it becomes a guessing game, literally, and that sucks. I've seen a clogged/shitty fuel filter, bad fuel pump, a few bad oxygen sensors in a row (aftermarket crap), and a bad ECU all on different cars cause this same code.

Actually a loose or even missing gas cap won't throw ANY codes on an OBD1 1994 Civic Si. That's one of those bullshit OBD2 codes.

Agreed 100%.
The fuel supply system code (43) is the biggest pain in the ***, ever.
Like B18C5 said tho - first step is to check your fuel pressure
.
I sold my '95 EX and it was still tossing a 43 with no noticeable effects (good fuel pressure, in range), new fuel filters (both), not short on power, not low on mpg - I couldn't figure it out...

That may be correct for you as judging by your SN you have a '97 (OBD-II) but for a '94 (OBD-I) like he's got he won't see anything of a CEL what-so-ever for not tightening his gas cap all the way.

My bad, didn't mean to give the wrong info. I didn't even take obd into consideration.

i just did a b18 swap in a 90 hatch we started it up or the first time and cylinder 4 is barely hitting it has 160 compression its getting fuel, i just put in a walbro pump and it has a brand new o2 sensor and fuel filter and its pulling up code 43?
WHATS WRONG! IM TAKING ANY IDEAS

bump because I saw some good info in this thread. I'm also throwing a 43, 26mpg around town on a obd1 gsr swap, had one time the car stumbled but other than that runs perfect, good fuel pressure. There has to be a way to diagnose this rather that just throw parts at it. Any more info fellas? I read my helms and it didn't help much
my stock b20b is now randomly thrwing a 43 and 16 (fuel injectors) i would really like to know where to begin b4 i juss start buyin new injectors and all that....

Mine threw me a CEL 43 when I was super low on gas. After I filled it, it was gone for a few days. It threw me a Fuel Supply System CEL on my way to work this morning. =[ I'm on a stock 95 EX. I'm gonna go have my fuel pressure checked and see how that turns out. Thanks for the info guys.
1992 civic hatchback 94 gsr.
i have a code 43 only when i set the rpm at 2000 and hold it for a while then it shows up but after that when i shut the engine off and turn it back on its gone. Is it because i am running a 1993 ls ecu? I have a 1994 Gsr in a hatchback. My gas is also low to may that be why?
