Poor Mans Type R Set-Up
Is doing a poor mans type r as simple as getting a GSR block and simply just put on the B16 head or is there more to it than that?? like the headstuds for example, are they both the same fitting or not? do i need to tap the B16 head in anyway? things like that.
its gon be BOOSTED too.
Can someone give me some info?
Which would be better: GSR or ITR cams or leaving B16 cams be just fine??

You also need to swap the pistons and the cams/valvetrain if you're trying to achieve something similar to an actual B18C5. Honestly though, I never really understood what the appeal of the "poor man's Type R" is.
Its only really good if you have the parts just sitting around.
You would need type r cams, type r pistions or P30 pistons and make sure
you use a B16 tranny.
If you have the full GSR engine you could just change the Intake manifold
to a Skunk2 one and get hondata.
(you dont need to tap the head or anything like that, they bolt right up.
you would need to use the GSR timing belt and just replace the studs with new ones)

the motor gon be boosted from the turbo i have on my B16, im gon keep the head stock probaly with cams. which would be better for boost though: gsr or itr cams??

there's no use putting together a poor man's R if you're going to boost it anyway. the GSR's compression ratio is better for forced induction, and you can use the money you would have otherwise spent on swapping the head and internals to put together your turbo setup. the difference in flow rates of the head will be less distinguishable with boost.
yea but seeing a gsr motor boosted is to common, but to see a boosted poor mans type r in a em1 is less likely to see and somethin different to do.

In all seriousness, do you want to spend more money than necessary for a boost project simply because it's less common? There's a reason that it's less common... because ironically buying a B18C-R is probably the same price or cheaper than building a "poor man's R" after all the work you need to do to match the R in spec.

Bottom line, building the poor man's R for boost is throwing your money in the wrong direction. An R can handle boost, but it's far from the optimal platform in which to start with. There's a reason why people take a GSR block and LOWER the compression ratio before turbo'ing it. You're doing the opposite for more money.

Yea I got what you saying, But in the end im gonna go for the Poor Man's R and boost it, The amount of money im gonna spend is no more than $3900 estimated w/ CP Pistons, Eagle Rods, and Labor Work (Bore, Honed, Balanced, Assembly, ETC). I already have the B16 head on my present set-up right now w/ the turbo from the same motor and everything i need to install it. ITR motors go for $4600 now and days.
