diesel civic type R announced

apparently ....this is something they are considering, but from the pictures it probably will never make it to US shore. (UK spec). did anyone else catch the 320 ft lb of torque?
Is that right?!

Sadly, there isn't much US interest in diesel powerplants, so you're probably correct that it will remain across the pond.
Most people don't normally associate diesel power with high-performance, but cars such as this (not to mention the immensely successful TDI-powered Audi R10) will hopefully change that perception.

I'll be trading in the 06 Si on the CR-Z.

I can't hardly wait to see the production version of that. I hope they give us a non hybrid model as well.

I have been reading and hearing of Honda's production diesel plans. I for one would consider making the switch since I drive so much for work. I wouldn't mind the torque around town either
diesels = dirty, stinking lame-arsed, crap to drive "performance" cars
but they're very popular over here
someone i know recently had a BMW 335d. 3.0 straight-6 twin turbo diesel, remapped to 320bhp and 540lb/ft
just the regular Civic CDTI's over here worry Golf GTi drivers

It'll never fly. Japanese people don't like diesels, and finding diesel fuel at regular stands is difficult in Japan. I think Honda should be going the other direction and look toward making an all-electric or hybrid Type R
Did anyone see how big that dead pedal is? It doubles as a cheese grater, from what Kenichi Nagahiro said in his interview.
Bio diesel is a step in the right direction, but unfortunately still yields a relatively low ratio when comparing how much energy it takes to make it, to how much energy it outputs.

I don't think diesels will sale that well until gas prices are over 5 bucks a gallon. Diesels are usually more expensive then a gasoline engine in the same model. Gas is about 7 bucks a gallon in Germany and France. Buying a diesel vs. gasoline might save you money or break even over here.
Looks nice, but no way we will get it! I love Honda, but at the same time THEY SUCK!!! I seriously think they just hate us here in the USA.

as its based on the UK developed model and its probably going to be aimed for the UK/European market where there is demand for performance diesels, i guess this doesn't matter

Ah, it was just a matter of time before the type-r came as a diesel. Over here in Europe diesels have become so popular that almost every gti car comes in a diesel version.
I won't get one though. I've raced quite a few diesel cars at various track events, and they're pretty slow even with all that torque. That narrow 1000-1500rpm powerband really makes them crap at the track. You need horsepower just as much as torque to make a good track car. And beeing a type-r that's what's it all about IMO.
Diesels don't belong in perfomance cars in my experience, but they're great for daily driving.
