Valve cover ?
I'm gettin ready to pull my valve cover off in the next day or so and i'm gonna cut it, sand-blast it, prime it, and then paint it. its an H23 cover. I spent the afternoon browsing and checking out everybody's cover and i gotta say- There's some PRETTY GOOD stuff floating around out there.
Anyway... First question: what paint (percisely!) do you use to get that textured look? I looked around today and seen a couple different products but nothing with heat resistance over 200F. Can i use a textured paint and than spray the color I want over it to get the same affect, or do i need the textured paint in that particular color?
Now the more important question: How do I get the raised lettering to be a different color? I wanna spray the cover white and have the lettering black.
Any other advise you kind people can give a noob would be appreciated. ThanX

The textured look is from the factory sand casting. Which is just the way that the valve cover is made. I really don't know if there is a paint that can replicate that effect. But you can use pretty much any paint you want to on the valve cover it really doesn't have to be high temp. paint. Hope that helps.

What brand of it though? Would i use like an exact-o knife to cut around the tape? I was lookin at these covers today with the two different colors and they were perfect!! I obviously want the same thing... Can i spray over the crinkle and have the same affect?

You could always just get the covor powdercoated, or instead of cutting the tape with an exacto, you could always just use some crinkly paint allover the whole thing and then just sand the paint off the raised letters and then paint them with the covor taped off, i honky hitched the covor on my civic, i just high temp painted the whole covor red, and then i sanded the letters and colored them in with a pain marker.
What you can do is get high temp paint from auto zone. Amd for the letters wait for the paint to dry then tape off the letter edges and sand it back down to the factory grey.

A big no on that....the texture is from wrinkle paint that they use.
Though it is pretty much true that you can use any kind of paint, high heat or not. I have seen people Bonda their Valve cover to smooth it and it was fine...it won't hit more than 200 degrees anyhow.
Another thing some people do for the letters is to put Vaseline or some type of gel on the letters so the paint slides off of them easily after you paint.

Wow, thats really smart, I never thought about doing the vasoline or oil thing for the letters instead of tape, that would save alot of time, and you could just wipe it right off
