Default Car jerking on gas pedal release

1990 Honda Accord EX

When I release my gas pedal at ANY RPM, the car will jerk. I have heard motor mounts are a probable cause, but my engine goes front to back, and my front torque strut mount was just replaced. Also, I'm getting thick smoke coming out of exhaust at high RPM's, and when just starting the car after it has been sitting, some small puddle of coolant leaking on the ground. Levels of coolant do not change, pressure tests okay. And yes, I am sure it is coolant. Probably unrelated problems, but perhaps not? Also, power door locks arent working, windows are fine, and I hear the solenoid "clicking" noises when I engage the lock switch, this was an intermittent problem for awhile, sometimes they would be fine, othertimes not, but if I played with the switch or the lock outside, they would start working again....? Thanks for any help!

*bump* I forgot to mention its a manual transmission, the jerking has kind of stopped but is definitely pronounced at low RPM's <2000 (+ in first gear, first gear seems to be the worst), also, there is absolutely NO power under 2k RPM's, probably just the SOHC or something... Still smoking out of the tailpipe though, anyone know anything that could help? thanks!

color of smoke??? blue is oil, possible bad valve seats, piston rings fried, or piston ring lands could be cracked... black is usually too much gas a.k.a. running rich, safc in your car, bigger injectors, huge fuel pump, basically too much gas in the engine... and white is coolant and if its thick your head gasket is possibly blown... or it could be your FITV (fast idle thermo valve... i think that is what it means)... just my $.02 i could be wrong

Smoke is not black, but I cannot distinguish between blue and white, not sure what "blue" smoke would look like, so I'll assume its white, since it looks white. Also, it doesnt happen when the car is driving around normal rpm range, just at high rpms, or when the car is first turned on. Also, I figured out that the jerking couldnt possibly be from the motor mounts, the engine only has movement at high rpms, so its probably the transmission, hurray... I should probably get rid of this car before it causes me more problems. ugh... i already have over $3000 into it.

A small amount of "jerking" in a manual transmission vehicle is acceptable. If you are used to driving an automatic then the ride may seem more pronounced on you car with the manual transmission. In a car with an automatic transmission the torque converter tends to absorb the jerking going on in the driveline, where in a manual where the clutch locks the engine to the wheels it will seem more extreme. However, i just replaced the torque strut on my accord with a manual transmission and it made a huge difference in the ride quality when switching on or off the gas. But, since you just replaced yours, maybe getting used to a manual transmission is in need, or just the way the accords normally handle for that matter.

Ive been driving manual for awhile, its probably just the age of it. 180k is not donefor by honda standards, but still its a lot of miles.. Your right though, the jerking is most likely me with this car, i havent been able to really find my niche with it yet, however, the smoke is very puzzling. wondering if it is infact an internal seal leaking. If so, how would be a good way of getting the valves, rings, etc. all replaced? overhaul engine..? I dont really have any place to work on an engine, I do most of everything else myself though.. Also, anyone have any guesses as to the power locks failing? If not a fuse? Thanks though, just got a little overwhelmed earlier with stuff and the car was extra smokey today..

Smoke at high RPM just mean your abusing your head too much!

if it jerks too much it might be the throw out bearing on the clutch

could also be that your injectors are getting clogged

I have 93 accord Manual

It does not jerk

It didnt used to, maybe I did put too much oil in, now im seeing oilish puddle under my car everyday, but the oil level seems to be maintaining. Im going to probably have a mechanic check it out just to be safe, and i dont ride at high rpms all the time, ill just drop a gear to get around someone.. i dont hold it at high, just up to maybe 4-5 then to next gear, ill hardly ever redline it. actually. i never redline it. because when it gets to 5500 all my power goes away, and it feels like the engine is no longer pushing the car forward. probably right about the throwout bearing though on the clutch, except would that cause it when releasing the gas, not even touching the clutch? I thought the bearing did something when engaging the clutch, not just letting off of gas? Thanks for replys!
