Default argh im an idiot

Ran out of gas on my bike. Ok, no big deal, walked to the gas station and filled up the gas. Still wouldn't crank. Here is where I became stupid. I decided to do the whole run-jump start by myself... so i didnt think it completely through.

I started running and i eventually got the bike to run in 2nd gear, but now what... no one's on the seat because I was running beside it to get momentum going. Well ya. My options were to attempt some sort of stunt move that I saw on youtube where you just run and jump on the saddle and continue riding... or I could just let go and let it hit the curb at like 10 mph. So I chose the latter, and I ended up with a crack on my bike. I don't know what its called but it is a Cylinder looking thing on the right side of the bike and there is oil dripping out. I managed to ride the bike outside my local shop, but my oil light came on.

When I got home, my entire Sidi boots were soaked in oil. My sock was covered in Oil.. OK time to shower.

Shitty night. Now I have to study for my test and wake up at 7 to rent a car... (My car is actually at the shop too)

Anyone know how much its gonna cost to fix? I bent my rear brake pedal too. Son of a crack head. Maybe Biking isnt for me

Sounds like you cracked the clutch cover... that sucks man.

Why didn't you pull in the clutch once the bike turned over and started? When my leg gets tired of kicking I sometimes push start my dirt-bikes, or roll them down a hill and pop the clutch.

(</TD></TR></TABLE> Damn I hate when I do that, Like Tornadom said how come you didnt use your clutch? If you do it yourself I cant see it being that much just look around for a clutch cover or pick one up from the stealership

that is pretty dumb... you don't know how to bump start a bike?

Look here @ 1minute 31 sec

Every rider should know how to do this, its pretty basic. this is how Formula 1 used to start

atlesat I've yet to drop the bike thinkn the side stand was down. hahaha anyone do that one?

Hey... rowland heights? Thats my neighborhood =D

Ive had more than a few mishaps where Ive had to jump the bike too -___- Thankfully Rowland has enough hills and slopes that more times than not i can just let it start rolling

Anyways, sorry to hear about the bike

Damn that sucks, next time either find a hill or pull in the clutch once it turns over.

I cant believe I am hearing newbiness again... (OP)
oh well, it's like this:

1-get the bike moving as fast as you can by running along side the bike, preferably with the key in the on position
2-Jump on board the bike and engage first or second gear with clutch in
3-Let clutch out as hard as possible to turn motor over
4- ride away.

it's fairly simple... unless your riding a twin with 100mm pistons, then you can kiss it off and just call your closest friend or get a jump. All you have to be careful of is the bike will take off after it fires so manage your throttle and be ready to engage the clutch or you'll wind up in a tree or worse yet in the twelve O clock position

Dont worry man its not a big deal. Next time find a hill or a buddie to help push you though. First it's not the clutch cover cuz you said it's the right side of the bike correct? Well then its just the engine cover. And it's a easy fix. Its really just that a cover for the engine get a Alan wrench and take it off then buy a new one and a new gasket fot it buy some silicon to. Apply a small bead of the silicon to the gasket. Put the gasket on with the silicon facing out so as to almost glue the two together (the cover and the gasket). Then put the bolts back on with some LOCK TIGHT (get the red stuff not the blue) and wait 24 hours before riding and poof no more oil and the cover is fixed. Add oil and enjoy. It almost how it comes from the factory. You might be able to save the old gasket but i wouldnt even try. it miight of got frayed in the accident. And warning when you pull the cover off ore oil will come out so be ready to catch it. It ownt be to expensive either you can find both on the WEB about 100-200 for the cover and about 20 bucks for the gasket. About 15 for the silicon and about 7-8 for the LOCK TIght depending on how much you get.
