2000 Honda accord- Question about intake + Gas mileage
Well to start off if you live in katy texas. You would know it was a nice brisky day today so i decided hey nice day to get a cold air intake right? Well i went out to the autoparts store bought all the pipes and the filter put it together ( kit was predesigned) Filter was seperate. I was allready getting pretty bad gas mileage of about 12-16 in a 2000 accord V-6. And when i drove around with the intake on i got about 5-7. I filled up in the morning 47$ of premium gas. and when i got home just now i have 3/4 of a tank.... People at the store sugested extending the shortram below the bumper like the traditional intake did but then another store sugested that mabie i should consolt someone. So i decided to post here about it. I was thinking 1. I know its my hard foot. 2. The filter mabie i need a king cone. 3. Extending it to below the bumper isnt a bad idea ( so far it doesnt rain). 4.Mabie i forgot to plug something into the intake... If anyone knows the 2000 honda accord i plugged 2 things in the nice metal hose that burns your hands alot and the other one. Ill post some pictures but really that gas mileage is unacceptable i mean i cant afford that lol! If you have any sugestions feel free to post or call. 719-237-6214 obviously i know there are going to be those children OMG his number PRANK CALL. Well im only posting cause its a real issue and i need to get it fixed
Thanks for your help.
Thanks for your help.
lol
well your first issue is the gas mileage to begin with, that is horrible gas mileage and it sounds like you need a hardcore tune up to begin with, i'd start with that
second, the short ram alone won't kill your gas mileage like that, you , the driver zooming off to hear the sound is what kills it
1) Take it in for a hardcore tune up
plugs/wires/oil change/etc
2) then worry about filter

id look into 02 sensors and or cat. after a good tune up. as far as the intake any intake properly installed should make a diff but souns like your problem started way before the intake. hope for the best
