Default Buying a 98-99 EX...what to look for

I'm goin' car shopping today. I've owned a 1979 Civic 1200 and a 2000 DX hatchback, and I'm ready to return to Honda. I'm looking to get a 98-99 EX 5-speed coupe.

Are there any specific things I should look for when test driving/looking at the EX? Any problem areas?

Thanks.

I know the exteriors have some differences, but the D16Y8 is the same, right? (correct me if I'm wrong)

Regardless if they're different...are there any aspects of the car to watch out for?

th 98's have slider climate control
99+ has electronics and they look a lot better with the stock tail lights and headlights.

Are the 99-00 EX coupes the ones that have red and clear taillights rather than the red and ambers?

Just make sure the body is clean. I can't imagine anything mechanical breaking on that new of a car. If you want, you can probably find a 96 for really cheap. I've seen them for as little as $5000 with like 70-90K. Or if you want to spend a little more, go for a 99-00 Si.

I have a red 98 coupe, pretty decent, yes the taillights are the ones with amber, and the front bumper headlights and misc parts are diffent in style. One thing i do not know, if the 99+ are easier to replace the stock radio, but my 98 i just ended up taking to a shop to do. They do share the same engine from 98-99 as well.

the tail lights are interchangable so it's not a big deal...the front end is the major difference. The radio is easy to replace, but the keyless entry does not work if you add a new head unit (the 99-00 keyless does not do this).
