Better overall, money wise, and performance wise 2000 Civic SI or EX
I plan on getting a new Civic in a year or so, as my sister will need my 2000 Civic DX (automatic) when she leaves her college dorms and moves to an apartment.
I'm wondering what is better overall, money wise, and performance wise for a 2000 Civic SI or an EX(manual also).
The car would be modified for better performance. Basically what I'm trying to ask is that do you think for the price difference in the two cars, would I be better off getting an SI with a few upgrades, or an EX with many more upgrades?
BTW, I'm a newbie to this board, so any help is appriciated.

if you can find a good or decent deal on an si it will be your best bet. but if you dont care about what year it is then that is a different story. i assume your talking about the 99-00 si coupe compared to the ex coupe. but if you get an earlier model ex coupe you may be able to do a swap or turbo for the same amount of money you would spend on an si.

I've seen some slightly modded Si's go for around 12k on this board, which seems good to me.
I've also seen some EX coupes go for as little as 6-7 thousand stock. That would be a great platform. I mean, Type R brake setup and rims= 1500, B16 swap, 2500, sleeves and shock, 600...etc.
A decent EX with those performance add ons, would be about 10,600, and thats with a car thats just as quick, handles better, and stops faster, with a low mileage engine. It all depends on how much work you want to do.
An Si with some cilovers and bolt ons would be a fun car, but an EX would have a little more room for originality.

An si is a really fun car....b16's are great motors, no torque, but loves to rev.
i would say si all the way.

Re: Better overall, money wise, and performance wise 2000 Civic SI or EX (nasi)
prestige and theft appeal ------------Si
Better overall value ------------------Civic Coupe CX\DX\EX
ex would be the best bet since it will have all the options the Si has except the 4 wheel disc, but that is easily changed by $400 from fastbrakes.
just swap, coilovers, brakes and you have cheaper and faster.

I would say go with the EX.
- cheaper insurance
- less theft appeal
- after a swap is still cheaper than an SI
- adding rear discs is easy and not too expensive (been there, done that).
- any other hop-up parts you would probably also buy for an SI (exhaust, suspension, etc.)
So an SI is nice, but not worth the price tag in my opinion.
