Time for a new build!
Well, the time has come to do my final build for this car...going mild all motor. Previous setups included:
t3/t4 turbo on stock block(7 years ago)
fully built 84.5 solid deck sleeved 9.8:1 with same turbo setup(4 or 5 years ago)
all motor 11.3:1 JE piston/stock cams(2.5 years ago)
and now...going with 82mm JDm ITR pistons, stock rods, OBX Type A cams(been running them the past year), MF 4.9 FD and first gear, and all new parts.
I've been sick of running forged pistons so long, burning oil, the noise, etc...I just miss OEM practicality and reliabilty. This should be a good setup to net me good enough power and gearing that will be a blast. The car will probably go up for sale in the spring, so I just wanted to finish it, have some fun, then sell it without any worries of its longevity.
I dropped my block and head off at Tabor's Machine shop here in Vancouver- it's who RRev uses for their builds...but I'm having them do only machine work- I do all my own assembly. Valve grind, bore/hone, R&R pistons onto rods, and hot tank it all.I'll be replacing everything this time...all new gaskets/bearings/seals/input shaft bearing/etc...everything but the oil pump which is 20k miles old.
Hopefully this will be a fun setup, and I can actually drive my car now without checking my oil every 100 miles
I'll be selling the JE pistons and Eagle rods if anyone is interested also
Here's some pics...

Question: What tools and how are you going to assemble the rods to the crank and at what spec? For spec. you follow the HEM? Thanks. I may consider doing the same for my build.

I follow the factory manual/Acura IN for all specs, especially when running stock replacement parts- Honda does not make 82mm pistons, which is what I need coming from a 81.5mm forged piston bore....so I went with Nippon, which is stock replacement. So, yeah, I'll go with stock specs...use a rod bolt stretch gauge for the rod caps.
I work as a Honda tech for the time being, so, this is something I'm usually doing in the shop anyways....and have for the past 6 years in my own garage.

pfft...come on....real men use torque wrenches only.... what are you...some sorta coward...?
...and you realize once I drive it..I'll somehow convince you to keep it... man...don't let it go like you did the truck... but again...it was a worthy sacrifice for the little lady...

Finally got my block and head back from the machine shop....2 weeks! Anyways, all looks good.
GOt bored/honed, new exhaust valve guides, new valve seals, and valve job. took 5 thou off on the head to clean it up. R&R the pistons....and tht was about it. Started assembling the head today... went to work to build my trans, but I left my toolbox key at home like a dic! Oh well, finish it up this week....

You said it.
Glad everything is going back together. Best wishes as the rebuild continues.

yes
edit* i have some pics of my head build that are pretty much exactly the same as yours. it is satisfying seeing it come together

Either way, all is looking well. Where did you order the pistons anyway?

I dunno, Pat. I just do the work, I dont study numbers
Either way, down with forged pistons
