how do you remove scrapes on your lip from bottoming out?

how do you remove scrapes on your lip from bottoming out?
friend of mine scraped his front lip, but not so badly its showing black. How do i get rid of that?
Sand paper?
wax?

Was it painted? Because if it was painted and he scrapped the paint off and thats why its black, then he can touch it up with paint, or get it painted.
