Default code 17 VSS speed sensor

my ECU is throwing this code anythings that i need to look for ? does it need replacement ? ECU is been acting strange latly when ever i start the car is puts itself in limp mode. a solid light on the ECU is this code 0 ??? thanks for your time

1 long 7 short VSS sensor ??

i cant find this sensor only thing i found was in front of the tranny by the wheel well would this be it ??

i see all these pictures of it back behind the transmission but i dont seem to have anything there there is my speedo cable and thats it

your vss is in the cluster a cable (mechanical connection) connects the tranny to the cluster where the VSS interprets the speed and relates that to the ecu

i see now how its cable not electric like the newer models ..it looks like its where the speedo cable meets the transmission looks like it pulls out... i dont see how if there is no electric connection how does my ECU know code 17

ok so then we know the connection from the tranny to the cluster is ok.

I would suggest if you havnt already, to disconnect your battery for 20 sec's or so to clear the ecu and hopfully clear the code.

if its still there....
next take off your cluster and look for anything unusual and make sure all the plugs are clipped in properly including the speedo cable being cliped in correctly.
If you have a second cluster try that forsure.

let us know if it clears after flashing the ecu. well get more detailed from there...
