Default my car makes a weird noise when engines cold?????? help please....

ok heres the deal i got an 01 itr with 92,000 miles. brand new bottom end. when i start the car when its cold it runs clean for about 30 seconds, then a strange sound comes from the like either between the dist. and valve cover or lower, but when i put my head close it moves towards fuel rail.... but by the time i trace it it stops(engines warm by then). i had somebody tell me it could be a bearing thats dry and need lube.... any input would be great since i have an apointment tues at the dealer dont wanna spend an ungodly amount cost me enough to replace my motor already.

Describe this strange sound. Does it sound like ticking?

well took it to the dealer and after a day of leaving it there they said they couldnt work on it because of my toda cam gears..... so onto another shop i guess. they were saying my adj. cam gears and timing belt may need tightening.

sounds like your describeing possible rod knock or valve lash needs to be adjusted but valve lash your would hear constant, maybe even a heat sheild that rattles when cold started when your rpm's are higher.

I beleive i have the same thing going on.

At first i though maybe something was wrong with the dist, so i swapped that and the sound was still coming from the same place.

Im actually on my way to listen to it with my stethoscope.

I just got this motor from a wrecking yard with 90k and got it running last night.

If i figure it out ill let you know, because i cant find anything online about it, and there is really no way to describe the type of sound.

It cant be a burn valve, cause i have compression, I dont think a cam cap could cause this, but i dont know.

So im hoping that its just one of my intake valves just way out of spec, but ive never heard this sound from that before.

The only way i can descibe it, is like a rattling, grind, tick. but there is no way anyone could picture that sound, without hearing it.

Ill let you know as soon as i figure it out, unless you figure it out first.

well i had my mechanic actually take the dirstro and lube it and it still did it.... so he called me today and said if he took the oil cap off while running you can here it louder coming from inside the head so hes going to replace so springs that have something to do with the vtec rockers or something. not valve springs but something else. anyway ill let you know too because its about $800 p/l. good thing im not getting charged if its a misdiagnosis

So i adjusted my valves and re adjusted my tensioner, and the sound is still there, but not as bad.

The strange thing is the it sounds like its coming from the dist, but when i had it running without the timing cover on, i heard the sound near the gear on the drivers side. So the sound is traveling down the camshaft.

If its what i come to think....If it a whinning noise from your dizzy, then its your bearings inside your dizzy. I had to replace my dizzy the last time i heard the noise and was fortunate to save the motor. Though the timing did jump over a few teeth @ idle.
Thank me later on this...
