Default Hytech Exhaust w/ Renault Catalytic Converter Install: PITA

HT,

so i finally got off my *** and installed the exhaust to my 98 ITR. I've had these parts for months

My question for you all is what would you recommend that I do with the secondary O2 Oxygen Sensor? Because of the shortness of the Renualt Cat, the O2 sensor wires aren't long enough. i can clip them together, but they'll be resting up against the exhaust piping and will surely burn/melt. What makes me scratch my head is why the O2 Sensor bung on the Renault is located where it is or why Hytech welded the Renault cat in that position so as to have the O2 sensor come out in a bad position.

Here's what i'm up against:

Just solder in additional wire to extend the length of the O2 sensor wires. Don't forget and add some heat shrink covers to make sure the connections are waterproof. That's what I did.

how would you deal with not getting the wires burned/melted due to the heat from the exhaust? in other words, how would you secure the wire above the exhaust? thanks for the help now i have to deal with getting a damn flex pipe added in between the renault cat and the jdm header.

I would look for some heat wrap. Wrap the wires from the bung to the body of the car. You could secure with fasteners.

Wrap it in something an zip tie it around your front sway bar.

Here is a plug n'play extension option if you don't mind spending the money.

Can you still buy this exhaust? If so how much as I didn't see it listed last time I went on the site.

Thanks,

If you are not due for smog anytime soon, it's fine to run with the secondary O2 sensor unplugged. You will get a CEL, but it won't affect your performance at all. I had the Hytech cat/header system on my 96 GS-R and left the secondary O2 sensor unplugged. All the ECU A/F adjustments are only based on the primary O2 sensor.

They are $1150 with the Renault cat. I ordered one back in late Feb. and I am still waiting for it.

Jo, is the exhaust made for a long tube header? Just curious why you need flex pipe and why the o2 sensor wires need to be lengthened to that extent.

WTF, why? What are they telling you and the reasons they're giving you for the wait? A year is fast approaching.

Is the cat welded on to the B pipe? If not, just roate it around.

Or just ask John, since he makes them...

wow that is a long time, makes me just want to buy one of those ebay headers and use someone else's exhaust, I originally wanted to get the header back setup but not sure I can wait a year. Did you have to put down a big deposit?

I have called twice to cancel and he has convinced me he'd have it to me the following week both times. I feel like a fcukin moron but maybe... just maybe when he calls me to tell me he has completed it I'll tell him to f-off. I, for some reason don't think he cares if I purchase it or not.

True but hell I am spending $$ on other things such as wheels and baby stuffs. If I have the money when it is ready great, if not oh well.
