Default Fairingless Sportbikes...

Rebuilt my carbs today, and went out for a little spin without the fairings...

Damn it was sweet. Front end seems so light, and without all that crap up front it feels more like a dirtbike. I'm thinking about a small acerbis headlight and cruising around like that for awhile.

Here's an old pic of it without fairings and some other stuff, it looks a little different now (not lowered, f3 front wheel, exhaust, paint). I kinda like the look

I think its 90% mental, without the fairings you probably lost 10-15 pounds sure (if you took off the headlight/upper), but it feels significantly lighter because it LOOKS significantly lighter.

Indeed, I felt the same way when I took off my fairings to get them painted.

hmm well being a sport bike, meant to go fast... with fast wind.. you know? im sure the farrings help with the aerodynamcs, especially at highway speeds, but im sure you can get by just fine without them

Time to do something about that upper-mount....and you need new tires.

But it looks good so far!

Haha, thats a pic from about 6 months ago when I was putting it together. It's got brand new wheels and tires on it (f3 wheels, bt014 tires) along with too many other new parts. I posted it just to show kinda what the bike would look like w/o the fairings.

Cleaning them is easy if you have a manual, know what the pieces are/do, and are decent with tools. I recommend getting some carb soak from autozone or somewhere (make sure you remove ALL the rubber pieces before you soak the carbs). Carb spray is pretty good, but to really clean them the soak is the best.

But the hard part is getting the carbs off the bike....

Wow, these bikes look really mechanical yet simplist. One question though; does your leg get hot from engine heat. Its looks like you can tuck in a few inches more when turning. nice bikes sup girl and fatboy01!

It's not the fairings that limit your lean...trust me.

10-15# up high and at away from the center of mass is quite noticeable.

Streetfighter FTW!

Any weight loss gains is negated by loss in aerodynamics.

People don't do it for performance, they do it for looks. Nothing wrong with that though.

I think the loss in aeros is negligible at speeds under 65+... the gains from shaving 10-20 lbs off the top of the bike, well above the center of mass, is fairly significant. I mean if your not racing around, or spend a bunch of time on the freeway, it's more practical in a way. Obviously the bike doesn;t look as refined, but it has a unique look. The weight doesn't really affect acceleration, but has a pretty good impact on cornering as well as the visual perception of the bike when riding. It feels and looks much smaller when riding, so the mental thing is pretty cool. Even the ghostrider pimped a streetfighter:
