Default Valve Cover Gasket

I'm changing the valve cover gasket on my 96 accord and I was wondering if I need to use some kind of sealant or if the gasket alone will be sufficient. Thanks

put some Hondabond in the corners where the gasket goes over the cam journals.

remember, 7lbs/ft for the valve cover bolts, they snap easy.

you should get honda genuine VC gasket, tube seals, and grommets. They last longer! the quality of the material is better than aftermarket much like Toyota genuine parts. I bought a set from checkers and in 3 months it leaked.

they said they are changing the gasket, therefor I would assume that means new. Why would someone change to a used one

where did the OP say what brand they were buying? For all we know they are buying OEM. Besides, that wasn't the question, they were just wondering if they needed liquid gasket or if the gasket alone was enough to seal the valve cover.

yeah i know. I didnt misread it. just making a recommendation. That way if someone was reading this and happen to do their own, they wont have to search couple hundred threads to find all the info they need. no harm in that right? just happy to say that my VC gaskets havent leaked for 2 years+ ever since I used the factory ones.
