Default Rear Bike Stand - A one man job?

Is picking the bike up on the rear stand (like a Pitbull) a one-man job? I'm thinking about getting one, but wonder if I'll be able to do this my self?

I'm thinking you need a way to stabilize the bike perfectly vertically before getting it up; maybe some wood under the kickstand or something?

Sure you can do it by yourself. I put a block of wood under the kickstand, hold her steady and slip the rear stand in. Pretty easy.

just get it centered and balance it with your left hand while your right hand works the stand. once shes in contact with the pegs/supports she'll stay centered. Put all your weight effort into levering the center stand downward least ye be juggling your scooter.

Sounds like it can be done...

also sounds like one can drop the bike while learning how to do this!

Piece of cake man, just do what Shu said. Pit Bull makes two versions of the rear stand. I have always used this kind and never had a problem.

If your worried about holding the bike while moving towards the rear to push the stand down, you might consider one of these.

Or if your really worried about it, you can try one of these. Supposedly you can lift it right up from the sidestand.

I wouldn't trust anything to lift my 450+ # motorcycles off the sidestand and into a vertical position. I can totally see that thing missing the right side spool and basically throwing a bike over.

Pitbull is sturdy as hell, I recommend it.

Getting it up on the stand is cake, just be a bit careful.

What's your budget? One Pit Bull stand will cost a set of Handy stands. The Handy ones work well enough. My set lasted for two years before I replaced them with PB stands (because now I'm into bling ).

Bling... old lockhart phillips precision bearing units. But I'll use what ever works as long as it's not flimsy

I made my own version of that pitbull stand and i love it. I also have a normal style rear stand and it's fine too. The more you do it the more comfortable you'll get with it.
I remember when i first started riding i saw some guy standing next to his bike pushing it by the bars around a parking lot and I thought he was crazy for not having his legs over the bike "just in case."
But now i do it too and sometimes i even throw a leg over while it's rolling when i'm pushing it from the side. It's all about getting comfortable with it.
The style of rear stand like above and below is also nice because it takes up less space than a regular one, and you get to hold the clip on while putting it up on the stand.

Replacement spindles? The part that lifts the bike? If it's Pit Bull, I ordered my replacement parts through Terra (www.terrapowersports.com).

Spools? on the swing arm or the L brackets on the "under the arm" lift?

Or both, if they're PB.

Every night I'm done riding I put my bike up on the stand. I have 2 kids so I'm always worried about them knocking the bike over when it's on its kickstand.

If you're worried about balancing the bike when using a rear stand you can use a block of wood under the kickstand for help. Here are some vids to do it both ways:
