jeep project - ready for winter fun
here i am rockin the stockin up by truckee a couple months back:

today i finished installing a rubicon express 3.5" lift (actual lift about 5") and 32x11.5 bfg muds. im much happier now but i still have a pretty long wish list that needs attending to.
after putting in all of the suspension components i was a bit freaked out when i got it back on the ground and heard some binding as i rolled it down the driveway. fabbed up a 1 1/4" transfercase drop and now all is well! no vibrations cruising along at all, and these muds arent that loud at all while cruising on the street/freeway.

bad weather? bring it. im getting a snorkel for this junk too :-)

thanks for the compliments guys, i hope to have some action shots very soon! i have to drive quite a ways to get someplace where i don't fear getting popped for trespassing...

no not really, those guys you see with the big fender flares on cherokees, spend most of their time driving it on the street (just like the the **** in "bro" trucks). those stupid bushwacker flares just get ripped off on trail, twisting up your metal fender in the process. no bueno.
i will go without flares until i get a fix it ticket for it, and then i will slap some junk flares on for a day to get it written off. i will not keep flares on permanently unless i get ticketed a few times for it.

XJ all the WAY!
i use to have one, maybe get another one in the near future.
here's mine.

at the time of this pic it had:
6.5" rubicon express/rusty's lift
35 bgf mt
custom bumpers all around and roof rack
dodge rear axle, 4.56 gears and locker up front
skid plates here and there
rhino lined interior
exhaust

i kinda pieced things together, some new, some used
till i was pretty happy with the set up.
best way to go is with a rubicon express lift, like 4.5 and 33's cause the stock axles cant handle much more than that.
by the way naxja.com is like the honda-tech of jeep cherokees!!

all the other pics were just snapped over here in newark/fremont at the old dumbarton bridge that was turned into a pier where people fish. i think the official name is "alameda county wildlife refuge." the road going out there is closed to cars during all the nicest months though, like april-sep, in order to protect some little bird or something.

as height/tire size increase's, the amount of other required mods increases and so do the zero's in your jeep budget. just as with hondas, you can buy everything brand new, or you can source together some things to save some $$$...possibly.
i saved myself nearly a grand by purchasing my tires/wheels used from someone who upgraded to 33's after just a few thousand miles. if i ordered the **** new it would have been close to a grand for the five tires (must have full size spare) and another several hundred for the wheels. i picked up the combo for 450 up in chico.
i was tempted to piece together a suspension kit, even building my own lca's would have been easy but as it was my first time doing a jeep suspension i wanted to make sure that i had EVERYTHING necessary. for this reason i didn't pinch pennys when it came to the suspension kit. ordered from one of the most trusted names in xj suspension, and made sure to get the full leaf packs and everything else needed. extended brake lines etc. i spent about a grand on that crap, and could have spent anywhere between several hundred-1500 on that same lift, all with very different results. there is A **** TON of homework to be done before jumping into jeep suspension. its not nearly as simple as picking up some koni's and gc's and tossing them in ;-) soooo many variables to take into consideration even for a rather mild build like my own.
now the 6.5" setup running 35's that CLIMB_ON had, we are talking thousands.
at 32's you don't have to regear, at least i like the way mine drives, at 35's you are an idiot if you don't regear. that **** is expensive, and be prepared to pay for the labor on that unless you are an expert at fine measurement and already own a bunch of precision tools.
