Default Did I get screwed?

I was driving today and all of a sudden I heard a "thump". That was immediatly followed by something being grinded by the asphalt as the run was moving.

The mounts supporting the fuel tank had fallen off. So... with new mounts/strap/hooks/bolts/washers etc. = 160$ (CAD) no tax / with labour... Does this sound right, I just feel that I'm being screwed over everytime I bring it to the mechanics. Yes I wish I was mechanically inclined, but I'm not, yet!

Have you compared to other places yet, I would check a place or two out before settling for one...

Well, considering what happened,,, you may be able to take pictures and claim the replacement of any damaged parts to your insurance carrier. Provided you have insurance.

Have you gone back to the mechanic to tell them what happened and to see how willing they are to help you rectify the problem?

If I get a bad bowl of soup at a particular restaurant,, I usually don't go back, if you know what I mean?

The trouble with feeling screwed like this and not wanting it to happen again will either be your turning point where you say to yourself,, "I will never let this happen again!",, and arm yourself with the knowledge and the tools to do it yourself. OR,,, do proper research,, get references on your mechanic. Just like you would on buying a refrigerator or buying a house.

On the other hand; If you choose to not educate, gain knowledge and take actions into your own hands - next time,,, prepare by making a ton of money,, sit back,, enjoy the ride and pay the piper and don't squeal when hard **** happens! It will have been your choice!

claiming it on the insurance isnt such a good idea...i am a claims rep for a large auto insurance carrier and more than likely you have a 500 comprehensive deductable, so basically you would be reporting it for nothing, and your insurance rates will go up. even if you had a very low deductable, it wouldnt be worth it, considering you would still come out of pocket for anything less than your deductable and over the long run, your insurance rates increasing will cost you more than this incident.

I have low rates/deductible (50comp250coll) with State Farm and I am OVER-insured/ multiple car/motorcycle/house, etc., etc.,,, even I know, though it is a good thing to hold out on the claim if possible, being insured is far better than not being insured. The last thing I want is to have someone dive into me that ISN'T insured and have to deal with his or her's bad misfortune, which would be directly thrown at me!

It's the ones that are not insured that are the most reckless and uninhibited! And it is those that usually seem to find me in traffic. How is that if there ever is a problem,,, I am not hit by a Rolls Royce? Hmm,, probably some 'live-by-the-skin-of-his/her-teeth' POS car!

Those that know what I am talking about,,, know! Those that do not,,, simply do not!

Also, in the end,, it is a cyclical thing,, and the insurance companies end up giving it to us in the shorts! No matter what! So, if it is small and the matter can be handled on my own, by all means, I will take care of it and not file! But, conversely; if I have something that is further past my scope of talent,,, and that is a rare moment because I almost never file,,, (and I won't say I don't have problems,, bcz I am not nor will I ever be exempt). But when that time comes,,, you will see my claim, hand me an unchallenged check and deal with it with a smile because that is what I pay you dearly for!

Well the car is at the mechanics right now and so it's not safe to drive it when the gas tank is just about to also hit the ground and start being dragged around on the floor. We'll see after that because I have another issue regarding my upper control arm so I'll get estimates and I'll take it from there.

As for insurance, I'm not insured for fire/stolen etc. Just if I hit someone, my insurance pays the damage on their car but I pay the damage on mine. On a 2,200$ car it's not worth getting a huge insurance on it. Maybe my next one...DC2 or DC5

you should really look into getting comprehensive coverage, its pretty cheap. collision coverage is the one thats expensive...and comprehensive covers all teh good stuff, deer, theft, fire, vandalism, acts of nature/god. if you have any questions, let me know. like i said im a claims representative for an insurance carrier
