Default suspension problem...

i just replaced my rear struts after 305k with some kyb agx adjustable struts, they seem worse on the weakest setting. I used the old stock coil springs on them, what's the life expectancy on a coil spring? Do i need new springs? do i need a stiffer spring?

yea stock springs are junk. the spring rates thread in the faq should help you decide what you need.

It could be the spring, you could need to up the stiffness, any numbero f other things. You're being pretty vague saying "they seem worse."

You did preload everything right?

yes, i use my floor jack when i tighted the bolts. it's alot more bouncy and i heard a loud thump when i hit a nasty bump. i can't believe my old struts were better...

i looked at the spring rates...i dont want to lower my car, i just want a smooth ride on these crappy virginia roads.

I have my KYB AGX's on their lowest setting with H&R sport springs. Drives great. Even better now with my ST bar.

Why didnt you replace all four? You just did the backs?

it seems worse when i hit a depression in the road instead of a bump, don't know if that helps...

well i figured out the problem, the dust boots on the HF struts are too small to fit over the base of the kyb agx! The dustboot was grabbing onto the base and not letting it go...causing a terrible ride.

I took the dust boots off and now it rides nice! question is... How long do i have before i ruin my new struts without the boots? and will dx/lx/si boots fit over the base of the kyb strut?
