So im pulling my GSR out that has my ARP headstuds and wanting to put them in my B16. The headgasket was just changed on the B16 not long ago so i dont wanna have to replace it again just for the headstuds. So is there a way i can move the ARP's over one by one or something without disrupting the heagasket?

 

i dont even think the headstuds will work anyways. a GSR block is taller then a B16 therefore the studs will be longer.

 

i did some searching around and i read you can use GSR's on B16's, but no the other way around. Anyone else?

 

are you sure they fit i thought it was a mm or 2 difference. on top of that you can do them one by one like you thought but why not just take the head off if your going through the trouble of take parts out of the head

Just cause im broke and dont wanna buy another headgasket. And its just the studs coming out.

 

if your UNinstalling them they should come out with the head still on because they are allen keyed on the top but i forget if there dowels in a GSR or B16 i have a LS/Vtec so i have dowels

 

Why dont you just reuse the headgasket?I re use mine all the time i just give it a little spray of copper and slap it back on.Really what does a headgsket cost anyways?I live in Chevy land so parts stores dont have them here otherwise if i have time i will just get a new one but if your in a pinch just spray and reinstall.

 

For me headgaskets are about $75, and i dont have that. I always wondered when you couldnt reuse a MLS headgasket, but its just comon practice not to i guess.

 

either way, when you untorque the headstuds your gonna want to replace the headgasket no matter what, so it doesn't really make a difference whether or not you take the head off.

 

I think that if i just do one at a time ill be ok, but i was just tryin to find out if anyone else had ever done this.

x2....I mean you could probably get a allen wrench down there and unscrew them, but your still taking pressure off the headgasket, which essentially would be like taking the head off.

If I were you, to avoid damaging anything, I would take the head off...try re-using the head gasket...worst that can happen is you burn slightly more oil and then you know you need to replace it soon.

To answer your question, I have never heard of anyone pulling them out that way but my buddy reuses his cometic gasket at least 2-3 times with copper spray and hasn't had problems. I don't think it would be a good idea to take the studs out one at a time. Think about the order you are supposed to remove the headbolts, studs in this case. The book tells you to do it in this order to keep from warping the head. By the time you go through the trouble, it could possibly be worse and might cost you more than replacing the headgasket or buying new studs.

 

I've done it before.

I just replaced one at a time. Removed one head bolt, and replaced it with an ARP stud, and torqued it down before moving on to the next one. Then I boosted 10psi for a year on my stock SOHC with no issues what so ever.

Maybe I got lucky, or maybe people are just paranoid. I say just do them one at a time. I know lots of other people who have done the same without any problems.
