Default Crower Stage 2 3/4 Race cams in an H23.

Just wandering if anyone has used the Crower Stage 2 Camshafts in their H23? What do I need in order to run them? I know I need the spring and retainer kit also, but I'm still confused on some things. Can I just pop them in or will I have piston to valve contact with a stock bottom end? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

with a stock bottom end you can run any production h23 cam.

Just get springs, retainers, a few extra keepers for installation, and a new timing belt/balancer belt for when you do the job.

Is stock H23 compression going to work well with the stage2's?

stock compression works just fine with my Stage 3 cams. You will have no problems with piston to valve clearance if you time the engine correctly. Look for some rocket motorsports valve springs and retainers. I have close to 10,000 miles on em without any problems.

#'s? I just can't see 2-3's making sense with 9.6:1cr.....but then again I know nothing about Non-vtec's.....I know they love boost and nitrous though!

Crower's specs make the H23 Stage 3 look fairly similar to H22 Type-S cams.

I made 161.64 HP and 147.61 T tuned with an AFC(yes i know not the smartest thing but i did make more power than stock). Now im running crome and a new fuel map. Haven't had it dynoed since then. In case you are wondering i tune with the help of my wide-band.

That is not bad at all considering that the h23 is rated at 160hp at the flywheel factory, correct?

Quite obviously, the thing responds to compression, pirate made ridiculous power.

Nir, why do you think it is so different for you to run stage3 (jun) cams in your 10.6:1 h22? Those JUN cams are way bigger in vtec than the crowers are.

this was done about 2 years ago. Keep in mind that this was done only on very basic fuel/ignition maps (enough to get the car to idle) and tuned with AFC. Can't wait to see what she makes now whenever i go to the dyno again.

OP not trying to hijack your thread.

i should save up for some crower 3's, springs and retainers. my nitrous would probably love them....

if you are going to run st. 2 cams i would run higher comp. to take advantage of longer duration/lift. if you do not plan on raising the comp. i would run st. 1 cams. check my sig. if you want to take a look at my st. 1 cams. dyno graph.

if you plan on going to a higher compression i would get the stage 3's. They will have way more potential in the long run. I have everything to raise my compression, just don't have the time to do it right now. If you do decide to get the stage 3's, you will need either a EMS or chipped ECU. Im running a chipped ECU tuned with crome. If you go that route i could hook you up with my ROM.

bog, bog, bog, bog, dynamic compression comes up a little so does the torque, gets a little peppy, then finally makes a little power then shuts down.

2 points of compression will go a long way for the torque.

I'd like to try Stage 2's but I have my new money sink so I'll ride out the Stage 3's until it's really time to rebuild the engine. Stage 2's should be much easier to keep streetable.
