Default Shifting 1st to 2nd

Last time I rode my bike I noticed something wrong with my shifting, specifically from 1st to 2nd. When I would red-line first there would be a lag, slip, delay where the rpms would shoot up. When I shifted to 2nd it would power wheelie, which I don't mind but it was unexpected. I couldn't pinpoint why it was doing this. Thinking it could be me pulling in the clutch a hair to soon and still being on the gas. Or maybe something mechanical like chain, sprocket, or maybe just traction.

Telling us what kind of bike it is might help.

i have the same bike with the same gearing.

i dont understand your question.. you said you are "redlining it" and then it lags slips delays?

do you mean you are banging into the rev limiter fuel cutoff?

the way u describe it seems like u are pulling the clutch kinda early and that would cause u to wheelie goin into 2nd gear.......................i may be wrong but thats wat it seems like

I should of said, trying to red-line it. The slipping action is taking place 3-4k before redline.

Ya so that way you jump into neutral in wide open throttle.....or just practice using the clutch except when going 2->3->4->5->6

Are you being sarcastic or serious about jumping into neutral at wot? You're talking about with or without the clutch?

redblck, I could do as you say but I've been using a clutch on a motorcycle since I was 5..it would be a hard habit to break. I've tried in the past not using the clutch when shifting and it wouldn't change gears unless I was at a certain rpm. I don't feel like moving my left foot any more than I have to. Attempt clutch-less shift, nope, clutch it, yep, then I'm back favoring using the clutch.

Have you tried letting off the throttle before pulling in the clutch? Just to see if the revs keep going up?

sounds like youre staying on the throttle between shifts

since first gear carries the most torque you may notice that only on your 1-2 shifts

Last time that same exact thing happened on my YZF600 dealership said i have to replace the second gear cuz it was fawked. You'll know if thats the case cuz eventually it will start slipping during regular shifts (within 5-8k range). And eventually you'll be in second accelerating and it would pop out of the gear into neutral all by itself.

How many miles is on the bike...?

I'm fairly sure I'm doing what a few people have mentioned. Pulling in the clutch while I'm still on the gas right before shifting into 2nd. First gear is so short redline comes fast, I think I'm jumping the gun a little early. Bike has 12k on it.

the difference with yours though is that the old carburated r6's and 600r's had a shitty second gear. it was a crapshoot as to whether or not your specific bike would have its 2nd gear take a sh*t on you but it was a common problem. obviously the fuel injected ones have no problem

Yeah, let off the throttle before shifting.

Are you redlining all the time?

I hardly ever take it to redline, only on special occasions. Like when I need a double shot of adrenaline. Majority of the time I baby my baby.

rpm maters only a tad, smooth shifting is all timing and technique regardless or how aggressive you are with your throttle. My clutch is almost never fully engaged, ever. Practice a lighting quick throttle chop/reassertment and simultaneous partial clutch engagement and release for best/smooth shifts, the quicker the better, like a snap of a Bruce Lee punch... It all should be over in less than a blink of an eye, and you can judge the quality of your shift but how much(or how little) you feel it through the bike, the smooth the better

after rereading your OP.. I think all you are experiencing is gearing run out... if you not feeling the torque, get out of first quicker and then you will feel the pull/torque
