I have a 3rd gear syncronizer going out in my d16y7 tranny. I was going to change the syncro myself but I am having difficulties locating them online and in a dealership they want me to buy the whole 3, 4, 5 gear set for $300+. I want to replace the y7 with a y8 tranny if it is going to cost that much just for the syncros. Does anyone have any input on where to find a deal on these syncros or on a y8 tranny?

 

whats wrong with your synchros? what are the symptoms of your problems.

i have not taken the trans apart yet but when i go to shift into 3rd, i have to let the rpms go down or double clutch. If i don't then it will grind when it goes into 3rd. Do you have a better idea of what I need?

How many miles are on the tranny and will it work for a 96 lx. I am trying to finish up with school. What is the bottom dollar that you would sell the tranny for?

 

Is this a pretty common problem? What do think it would be, the synchros or the gears. what would it cost to get everything I need for 3rd gear?
