Default Powerband question...

Alright... well after the whole bent valve ordeal and what not, I've got the built head, header, full KMS valvetrain and all...... and I had a guy run a basic fuel map on my P28.

I went out to drive it today, and it feels slower than it was before.... and then suddenly VTEC kicks in and its a damn monster...... What I was asking is if there was any way to get back some of the bottom end/midrange grunt???

Low end is horribly weak... Like F22 non-vtec style, then the power really tapers off around 3500-4500rpm... then suddenly at 5000rpm BAM!!! The front of the Honda lifts up and that thing goes like someone's shooting at it.... The top end is impressive, but driving the thing around town just got a bit more difficult with it being so damn weak down low.

Any suggestions on how to get some bottom end back? I'm going to buy a VAFC-II here, and I plan on messing with it a bit to see....

Thanks,
Bryan

Get rid of the P28 for the P72. There is something with the P28 that makes it run like crap in low rpms. There a link in my notes somewhere on what it doesnt do.

dyno and street tuning are needed.

A) your not running enough ignition on the low cam
B) your not running enough fuel and the engine is starving
C) your vtec crossover is too high

so is the p28 not good for use with a S300?? I thought a P72 or P28 was OK. IABs being the only real difference. Please explain.

well the p72 has the iab control the p28 does not. Depending on if you want to keep them or not. Either one will work though with hondata.

p28 is just as good as a p72, iabs can be added to the p28 very easily.
as for s300, IMO another waste of money. editors are free. 2 best imo Crome Uberdata. Crome pro is like 130$ and is the best editor by a long shot.

yeah, but you gotta spend 185 on an ostrich and/or 85 on a chip programmer, unless you run the ostrich at all times.

by that time, you can spend a tad more and get neptune and s300 which are tried and tested programs where everything works how it is supposed to. I have now problem recommending crome to people with mild motors, but i dont recommend it to people with stressed out motors.

dont get me wrong, i absolutely loved crome pro when i ran it. But theres just a time when you want something that gets tested before new products are released.

well it depends. If your tight on money, Crome is the best tuning ROM money can buy. But then again, if you are on a budget, you arent gonna be making alot of reliable power, lol.

I'm running NepTune...custom support is amazing. Thats what Crome lacks. If in fact you run into a problem, its not a guarantee that you will get help. So you have to rely on the PGMFI forum and people who have maybe already been through what you are having trouble with. I know when i first started tuning, it took me forever to get Crome properly setup.
I really like Cromes interface tho. Everything is right there in front of you. Much like hondata.

Alright I'll research those... after having all this work done to the car, I am a bit short on freely-spendable cash ATM, but I got a friend with a VAFC-II that he'd let me use..... It wouldn't be a permanent thing as I plan on getting Hondata once money frees up again, but would tuning it with a piggyback controller like that at LEAST help it out for a short term thing?

Not to mention that I bought some Motegi Racing wheels that have the universal Honda lug patterns right???? Mounted em on, they looked really good.... but an hour later driving up the street, the lug nuts on the front left wheel loosened themselves (after being tightening as tight as they would go) and the wheel fell off the hub. I was using the stock lug nuts which don't seem to have a shaft long enough to bite on these wheels, are there any special lugs that I should buy to help this???? I was told to get longer hub studs installed, but wtf... why would a company make a wheel that would require the customer to replace his wheel studs just to mount??
