They're telling you to tone it down a notch before you hurt yourself. Just because you think you're riding well doesn't mean you actually are.

It is just that the most accidents occur within the first 6 months of owning a motorcycle. The new 600RR is what I want but I don't think I could confidently learn on a bike that powerful. The 600's these days are as fast as 1000's 7 years ago. It takes about a year to get your reflexes to react in the way you want them to. Just remember, slow in, fast out.

There is a very thin line between confident and over-confident.

Just make sure you ride at your own pace, never go in above your head.

No need to try and keep up with Rossi just yet. Slow is steady, steady is fast.

there is a fine line between being confident and knowing ones limits.

The most dangeous time in a riders timeline is not when he first begins riding but when he becomes comfortable, confident... this idea always kept me inline.

I've been riding for a little over 2 years now and I'm confident in my riding, but never completely comforable. I always assume the drivers around me can't/doesn't/haven't seen me. Over 50% of motorcycle accidents happen within 5 miles of riders homes when they are the most comfortable to their surroundings.

All I can say is that the second you stop respecting the bike, it will stop respecting you.

To tell you the truth learining on my 600 is going really good for me respecting my bike is deffently #1 for for me and as far as everyone else on the road I look at them as if they are aiming to kill me.

My first bike was an 07 600RR too. I never felt like the bike was too much for me. I respected its power and never even redlined it the whole time I had it. I never had any interest in stunting, I never leaned too low. Just know your limits. And regardless of how many times a driver looks at you they still cant see you or dont remember you are there. Both times I was run out of my lane I had made eye contact with the drivers of the other cars or were slightly ahead of them within a minute of them pushing me out of my lane. Thank god there was space enough for me in other lanes or I would have been toast.

How about you lose the attitude because remember YOU are the one with 6 posts, YOU are the one asking for help, and YOU are the one who can't spell. Lose the attitude and you will get a lot more respect in the /26.

Nevermind, I have to go whine to my mommy about missing my last bike payment, noob.

It's no wonder the more experienced tell you you're "too sure of yourself".

exactly my thoughts. You come in here asking if you're too confident, and then you cop an attitude to people, probably the same way you cop an attitude to people telling you to be safe.

Just wear your gear, think smart, and don't do anything reckless. If you haven't taken MSF i'd recommend it as they'll teach you a lot of good habits.
I started on a 600 too against everything i read on the internet, and MSF gave me a lot of good habits and was just generally a big help.

Alot of people say that you learn on something less powerful and work your way up. I've known people that learned on liter bikes. I think that if you RESPECT the bike you can learn on anything, its just a matter of how disciplined you are. With this being said, is learning on a smaller bike just a comfortable safety margin?

I am new to bikes and will be getting my license in a couple months.
