1990 Civic Sedan Rack Replacment????
Has anyone ever replaced the rack under a Civic sedan? If so, how difficult is it to do? One guy told me you almost have to pull the engine to get it in and out. I have a leak in mine and have to add power steering fluid every once in a while. Hmmm....
I'll have to look again but as I recall from the last time I looked it was from around that rubber boot on the end of it. There is also a metal plate that bolts under it to protect it I assume and I think it was leaking from around there, too.
I've taken my powersteering rack out before because I swapped over to manual steering. You don't need to pull the engine or anything. That metal cover just covers up the lines going to it. One of the lines might need tightening or one of the hose's have a cut in it. Check around.
To pull out the rack just disconnect all the lines going to the rack
-undo the tie rod ends from the knuckle
-unbolt the cat from the down pipe
-loosen the cat-back from the rubber mounts it has so you have clearance
-unbolt the 4 mount bolts
-wiggle
-wiggle
-pull
-wiggle
and its out!

Thanks peanut butter! I hope your suggestions on what might be causing it to leak are right on.
Are the hoses replaceable if one of them happens to be cut?
