Just curious if this is a bad idea for some reason. The IC piping on my T5 goes up and over the engine. I figure wrapping it with header wrap or the like would be worth a few degrees or so. Here's the layout (black t00b in top right is for the IC):




Thoughts?

 

Header wrap is used to keep heat in, wouldn't be a good idea. They do make intake wrap now, although I don't know any brand names off hand. You should try and find some and give it a try, I would think that pipe would get pretty hot.

 

Yeah, what Dutchie said. Don't use header wrap on it because it is designed to hold heat in. I bought some intake wrap from DEI to use on my short ram intake and it did an excellent job of keeping the pipe cool.

So it's probably a reflective wrap of some sort? Makes sense. I figured header wrap would help keep heat out, but I misthought. And yes, that pipe does get damn hot

 

Here's a pic of the DEI wrap that I bought, installed on the tube portion of my Comptech Icebox. The piece that they give you is long enough to do 2 intakes, so I bought it, cut it in half, and split the cost with a buddy of mine.



The diameter of the wrap is pretty large. It was a snug fit on the 3" tube of the intake. It would be very loose on most IC pipes.
