My friend says his 1990 Prelude Si is burning 2 quarts of oil per day. He drives the car 50 miles. Says there is no evidence of oil leak under the car. When he starts the car in the morning it apparently blows some black smoke, but he says not a tremendous amount.

Any ideas on where to start?

 

compression test, that much oil has to be fried rings if he has no leaks.

 

Two quarts of oil a day is insane. At 50 miles a day this guy should be leaving a black cloud where ever he goes. He can start buy changing every gasket and also look what color the antifreeze is. If its milky color then u found your missing oil, and if im not mistaken thats a bad head gasket.

 

Black smoke at start up, sounds like a leaky injector.....or bad fuel Pressure regulator

Nothing to do with burning 2qts a day tho..

Time for the JDM B21! I think thats what it is!

 

Cam seals, valve stem seals, oil cooler, check around really good. Mine was shooting oil everywhere from the oil cooler and that's why I didn't see any leaks underneath.
