I got this thumping noise coming from the driver side axle.
The axle was just replaced 200 miles ago.
No CV boot are torn.

Lower control arm ball joint has about 2mm of play.

I had the car on jack stands, turn the wheel all the way to the left.
Step on the gas and heard the thumping noise, when its straight
there is no noise or to the right. There were no tires on.

Driving the car I would hear the thumping always.

Could it be a bad axle? mid shaft? could the ball joint be causing this?

 

CV joint or hub bearing, would not be the first time a bad rebuilt joint was sold.

Sounds like a wheel bearing. You could always check it with a mechanics stethoscope on jack stands with the wheel off. It will def. make an obnoxious noise through the stethoscope if it is the bearing. Also, drive the car and turn the wheel left and right while driving down the road. Make sure no one is coming obviously. If it is the wheel bearing it will go away when you turn away and return when you straighten out. Good Luck!!!

 

Also, as Duane_in_Japan stated, It is very possible to have a new CV bad. My dad owns a garage, and we see it 1 out of every 25 or so.

 

When I turn left its quieter. So lets say I turn left which side could this be?

 

Generally its the opposite way you turn the wheel (it stretches the axle when your turn it opposite)

Agreed...usually its the opposite one of the way you turn. To be sure I always use the stethoscope.
