im thinking just the head for honda civic si motor

the motor now isnt good. it might have a broken piston ring

id rather just change the motor than having someone fix
the broken ring

You will need a OBD2B engine. Which exactly what a 99-00 Civic Si B16a2 is! Ill say it would run you about $2000-$2500 for swap depending on where you go. I would highly recommend you do a bit more research on this before you actually do this swap. But Hmotorsonline.com has some really competitive prices on the net. Or if you can find a shop thats closer to you that'll be better because of the shipping charges. But be ready to put out another $500 more of what is planned. You might run into some complications along the way.

oh btw, you can not swapped just the head from a B16 due to its interchangability of a D series motor and a B series motor.

how much would a shop charge to put in a motor? What motor is allready in there?

Anywhere from $500-1000. If you pay $1000, you're getting ripped off hard. Try to get it for somewhere around $500 for labor costs. It's not a big deal to do a swap on these cars. I've done millions. It's to the point that from the time we pull the car in the garage, it's an hour and a half till the old motor and the car are sitting on the ground. Strictly hand tools and jacks and jackstands.

Just do alot of research first . I am doing my own for the 1st time , but going to read up for a very long time before I try .

 

its easy. you can throw it in, and it will pretty much bolt itself up.

 

the shop i work at charges around $2200-$3000 out the door depending on the car. this is for replacing a blown factory engine with the same or similar engine. this price inlcudes the motor (between $400 and $900) all of the major engine seals, crank seal, cam seal VC gasket, rear main... and so on. we also do a timing belt package for good measure and all new coolant hoses.

in the case of a swap, there would be extra for mounts, axles, ecu, various rewireing, and other odds and ends.

so i would think around $700 labor would be fair if the shop did swaps often and were familiar with the specific setup and had the right tools and knowledge.

but do it yourself. there are few things that bother me more than someone who wants a faster car but doesn't want to do the grunt work themselves. it's fun anyway..

lets not lead this guy down the wrong path. a honda swap is on the easier end of the spectrum, if you have worked on cars or have friends familiar with mechanics. but you cant just throw it in there and expect it to run. you will need good tools (hand tools will work), but a decent impact will make your life easier even a cordless one will help a bunch, a cherry picker, a couple of friends, and the knowledge you picked up doing your research, another VERY IMPORTANT peice of equipment will be the service manual.. get the HELMS. take your time and dont expect it to be a day long job. It gets done all the time but theres always something you miss. plan and plan some more. if all else fails pay the 500 and get a shop to do it.

 

you are looking at 3 g's and do the labor yourself.... or about 2500 for a B16

 

most bang for your buck u said the pistons fuckd up right .. go buy a ls block for like $100-$200 throw the b16 head on there and go.. well theres some things youll have to do in between there but take if your gonna let a shop expletive your car up then let them deal with it i wounldnt pay a penny over $1000 out the door b18b bottom ends are in surplus labour and parts a round $800 ...

 

why you asking us about labor like we are a auto shop. start calling some shops or go into on and ask

And so are you asking to just swap the head? Or do you want to swap the entire motor?

I thought you said the piston ring(s) were bad.

 

I thought he said he has a 2000 Honda Civic Si w/ bad pistons? Now what good does it do if you have bad rings and you want to replace the head. Two seperate things.
