Install TroubleShooting - No Music.... New Setup....
Literally finished installing all of my gear about 20 minutes ago. Buttoned everything up and checked all connections and put the interior all back together. Went to power up the stereo to listen to it and ofcourse... I get no music, no lyrics or audible sound from the door speakers. Subs work fine tho, just need some tuning.
I personally think it may be the HU.
I'll say why in a sec. Heres what Im running:
Headunit: JVC KD-G230
Speakers: Cadence FXS6522 6.5's X 4 (no external crossover)
Subs: 2 12" Audiobahn AW1206T
Amps: Cadence TXA 1000D & Cadence FXA4050 (2ohm 4 X 50rms)
Heres what I know.
-amps power up when the HU is on, both amp green led light up
-grounds on both amps are just perfect, solderred and sanded connections
-fuses on power wires still intact
The reason I believed it may be the HU was because I got it first on friday, so I decided to install it. I bought one of those HU harnesses for my car, and matted it to the harness that came with the cd player. Only needed to do the power/ground and antenna wires since Im amping my door speakers but I connected them all anyways.
My cd player HAD 3 seperate plugs connected into the back of the OEM cd player and 6 disk, the aftermarket harness I bought only clipped into TWO of those and one of those harnesses is now unconnected to anything. I thought it may have been for the BOSE amp or something.
So when I installed it and it powerred up, read cd's no problem. But it didnt play music. I still had the stock speakers installed and I figured it just didnt play music because I wasnt using the amp or something.
Im just kind of lost on where to start trouble shooting this problem. Thanks guys

Well the lesson you just learned is TEST FIRST, then put everything back together and TEST AGAIN.
Most likely the speaker terminals or the speaker wires (at least one) is grounded and putting the front channel into protect mode. Unplug the speaker wires and test each wire for continuity to ground. If you don't find anything, plug in one speaker at a time w/out mounting it.
Basically your goal is to isolate the problem. Work from the furthest part downstream (the speaker) all the way back up to the head unit.
If you think you're sure it's the HU, plug some speakers into it directly. Or if you have a 4ch amp, run some RCAs in the open and then test.

This is for an 01 Qx4. My music cuts in and out, if it randomly starts playing if you keep the volume low it will keep playing say in a parking lot. Or when your driving I can crank the volume and the bass just pumps but the audio/lyrics wont be there, then all the usdden theres some scrathching/weird noise and it will play some nice music for a breif few seconds them a big bass not might hit or i hit a bump and it cuts out.
I dunno wtf to check, possibly thinking its the 3 way rca split or the couple cheap Y connectors I used to do it

Ditto the above^^^
Let's see, works intermittently, sub that is on external amp always works, high-pass works at low volume, high-pass works when car not moving, that's a shorted speaker/speaker lead, I'd put money on it.
Try this to isolate the short, fade all the way to the front or rear speakers, does it still cut out?
If so, balance all the way to the left or right, does it still cut out?

thats what i was going to say... listening to music while you put interior back together FTW.

Umm maybe I have to clarify. But Im running 4 aftermarket speakers, powerred by an aftermarket 4 chanel amp.
How exactly does a speaker ground out? I dont understand how that would have happened
I was thinking it was my rca splitters and almost bought a new deck.
Would love to know how to solve this. thanks guys

Sorry I thought you were running them off the HU.
First thing I would do is check power and ground and amp control, for power, if you are using a AGU fuse, [big glass type] change it, even if it looks good.

When the speakers are installed the terminals can end up contacting the sheet metal of the door. Even if they work initially, the metal can flex and the screws can work their way loose.
Another common way is for the speaker wire becomes pinched or the insulation wears away so that the wire inside contacts the chassis.
The deck or amp in this case senses the short and shuts down that channel or pair of channels in order to protect itself.
Disconnect the speaker wires at the source and one by one test them for continuity to ground.

I guess I'll have to figure out how to check for grond continuity after work tonight then. My connections at the speaker were all perfect and then even rubber insulated.
I ran the wiring thru the oem wiring gromets and ziptied to the oem wiring harness casing. So I cant honestly see it being a grounding issue anywhere

You need to be more clear on how your setup is hooked up! Do you have the amp hooked up like I said or not? Is the amp power (the 4chanel one) staying on when the speakers go out?
