What size filler rod?
Im looking at some pictues of manifolds from full race and other notable manufacturers.
I dont think they are using 1/16 308l....are they using 3/32 or 1/8th rod? and 1/8" red tungsten? I cant seem to figure how they are getting such a wide bead area with smaller filler rod.

If you have a TIG with Hz control you will notice how you can widen or tighten the puddle of the weld with small filler or any size filler really. It saves walking the cup, so you can concentrate on getting more of a consistent row of "dimes".

Hz has nothing to do with DCEP/DCEN mode. unless your welding stainless in AC mode...

the filler rod and tungsten size have very little to do with the puddle size. Most of those really wide welds you are trying to recreate are overkill anyway. Bigger weld = biger Haz for the most part. Welds that are weaved to create the width are the exception ie walking the cup.
You can pretty much weld sch10 with anything from .035 through 1/8. Just depends on the person welding.
