Autometer mechanical oil pressure gauge question
Hey,
I have a mechanical oil pressure guage in my car and it started going really funny things today. It reads over 100psi on a load now which it never use. Use to read about 75-80. I pulled the guage out and everything looks good the line has oil in it with some air bubbles( not sure if thats normal). Checked the gound from the sending uning and it goes into the wiring harness so not sure and not sure were it goes to after that. The guage works but it just reads high numbers. What could be causing this?

if its a mechanical pressure gauge why does it have a sending unit. it should just have a hose that goes to the gauge<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Paul-eg »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

It has some device that is hooked up to the blcock which has an electical wire that runs into one of the wiring harnesses and there is also the oil line coming from that device aswell.
ah, the oil pressure sending unit. the stock one is T-ed.
i honestly would just remove it completely. i dont like the chance of the line busting and oil going anywhere the line just busted at. not to mention hondas rarely loose oil pressure.

it sounds like you've got a T tap and the OE sensor is still connected and then the line for the mechanical runs into the car. The gauge in the car should only have wiring for the light bulb or how ever it's illuminated...
As for the gauge being off, I've got no personal experience mechanical gauges so I couldn't give any advice, I'd venture a guess at trying to vent the air out of the line might help but I couldn't say for sure....

After playing around with it i got it to work. It doesnt go up to 100psi anymore but it does seem to read higher than it use to still. What are proper readings for a b18c?
