Default Cleaning a dirty engine bay

After doing some searching, I found that "Simple Green" automotive degreaser is the preferred product to cleaning engine bays. I went to a couple different automotive stores and product wasn't there. Was simple green discontinued?

What are other alternatives? I saw the store brand AutoZone degreasers when I went to AutoZone to get Simple Green, but didn't trust them.

Any brand works great, don't spend all your money on degreasers. Don't use regular simple green on engine bay altough it works, try using engine degreaser specific in a can. I use foil to cover up the dizzy, battery and other electric parts, spray engine degreaser, wait, wait, and wait, let it do the work but don't let it dry. Pressure wash it, go easy on some lines (if they bad they rip apart) air dry or get a rag and wipe it clean. Or you could use that simple green bottle repeating spray and wipe motion. Don't forget the hood

Simple green works better than engine degreasers IMO. It also doesnt leave that very strong petroleum-based product smell. also I have never ever ever ever covered the battery or alternator, I just dont spray directly on either of them or on the ECU on cars where the ECU is in the engine bay.

but I guess its all product preference.

Purple power works awesome. But if you let it sit too long on anything metal, it will corrode it...

I have had sub-par results with it. which is why I stick with simple green

i just do it at the car wash, spray the engine down with tire cleaner, let it sit for about a minute then spray it off.
works great and costs 50cents to do lol.
obviously avoid spraying the dizzy and intake filter.

i tried purple power and simple green.. i think purple power is too strong and not safe to painted parts i would suggest just to use simple green and after cleaning all the parts u wanted to clean use black magic engine cleaner so it'll make it shinnnnnyy!!

APCs and any degrease SHOULD work. Use accordingly and get some stiff brushes to help if you need to. Elbow grease is a necessity if its bad.

I would not use an engine degeaser specifically. They are extreamly hard on the rubber hoses. I use 409 orange cleaner. The same thing as simple green.

I suppose one use of the specific engine degreaser isnt bad for a one time thing, but unless the engine bay is horrible and I mean horrible I would use a 409/simple green.

the process i use works great..

Foamy Engine Brite.. you can get that stuff at any autozone, carquest, kragen, checkers, whatever.. spray that stuff all over the whole engine bay.. let it soak for about 10 mins.. rinse, or pressure wash it off.. then what i do next is take a leaf blower or compressed air, and blow the water off.. follow it up with some CD2 engine detailer.. let that stuff set til its nearly dry, then use a damp cloth to wipe everything down so the CD2 doesnt puddle up.. CD2 will dry to a resin so it doesnt have that unprofessional greasy look and all that dirt buildup later on...

here is my engine with 60K on it..

my STi engine .. i did this process like once every couple months..

my gf's 01 civic, roughly 90K on it
