Default D16Y8 - Intake Manifold for 400 and 9k >>

Looking to get a new intake manfiold. When my car was tuned a few years back it put down 424whp/365wtq but dropped off at round 8k.

Tuner stated my intake and ingition was holding the motor back. Just got an s300 and need retuned so now is the time to swap on what I need.

Looking for midrange and some top end power. I just dont want it to stop making power at 8k.

Performer x - good mid range, but will it hold to 9k
Victor X - do they make for a D. I think its rated 7k -10k. sounds like i might loose midrange.
Skunk2 - not good for high RPM, Performer x wins hands down
Blox - need info on a D series
Golden Eagle - need to see some dyno graphs on a D. I know rota runs this, but his setup is a bit more then mine. im only running an SC50 not a GT3567R

Are there any other options out there. i have not looked at pricing yet, but $500 is around what im looking for.

Thanks for the input.

The Golden Eagle is a great piece, I have a few friends that run them and love them, but they are a bit more $$. Both Rota and ElSpool used it on the SOHC.
For the money I'd go with a Performer X. I've used them several times and always had good results. We just took mine and port matched it which should help it out even more.

Thanks for the input. Im leaning towards the performer x as well, but did not know if the Golden Eagle would give me better results in the midrange yet still allow power to be made until ~9K

What's the price on the GE?

I dont think you will be able to make power to 9k.

I run a BLOX, I had to richen up full boost just a tad bit more up top. I only rev to 8200 though. No numbers to prove anything though sorry bud.

just usuing some educated thinking, the blox would perform pretty similar to the skunk2 because of design being damn close so it prolly wouldnt be the best if u want to spin to 9k, but better than stock. The goldeneagle looks like it would work best for that high rpm range.

Why are you set on revving to 9k? Why not just rev until where it stop making power? Does the cam you have even make power up there?

I’m running the compcams/zex 105300. If it does not make power to 9k then im not going to take it that high. I don’t see why it wouldn’t though. I know the stock Y8 manifold can’t make power that high and is limited in flow compared to most of the aftermarket manifolds.

Keep the optoins comin....

What's the midrange on the Golden Eagle. I need at least the same as the stock Y8 or better.

I bought it cause they had a half price sale on and wanted to try something different than my S2, biggest difference it made was higher peak power and a much flatter tq curve, but you have to rev it out. It also adds a nice touch of performance bling to your bay

where did you get this from? I have never seen a dyno comparison....

I have the s2, it pulled harder up top compared to the stocker, but I only go to 7500... so after that I don't know.

Couple of graphs around with a comparison. S2 is a good manifold, but not for the power and RPM im trying to make.

Im assuming im going to need to redo my intake charge pipe when I swap to the new manifold?

The best price i have found on the GE is $599. PM me if you know of anything better.

I don't have any back to back numbers as the car dyno'd the following spring time when I put it on. I also run a stock Y8 cam and make peak power at 7900rpm...and an insanely flat tq curve. I will say this, for a pump gas boost level street car, I'd wouldn't waste your money, but if your looking to make big power for a D.. I think its worth the investment.

I am running that cam with the skunk 2 manny. That cam stops making power around 7000 rpm. If you rev to 9k you are going to be way out of the powerband. I also have a STR manifold which is the same as the GE. The STR manny has shorter runners plus a bigger plenum than the rest listed above. Shorter runners will give you more topend. I perfer the skunk2 manny myself.

I agree, I don't think much will be "going on" at 9k w/ the SC50.
Mine made power to 7800 and was steadily climbing w/ the 59300/Edelbrock mani.
The cam moreso shifted the power ban over a bit.

But anyway, the GE is definately a good looking piece, but pricey. For an all out drag setup, I'd say go for it if you can afford it. I think the Edelbrock is just an all around good piece.

Thanks for all the input...

It sounds like the rest of my setup (cam and turbo) is not going to support 9k. Is there a D Series cam that will support that?

Everything keeps pointing back to the Edelbrock.
