Default d16y8 intake manifold on d17 engine

So ive been reading up on this a little bit on d-series.org, and i havent came across anyting that i could find on the subject here, and i was curious if anyone has pulled it off? if so how much power if any have u gotten out of it? i know an EMS will be needed and if so what setup do u have? The reason im asking is im interested in building my d17a long block, not for massive amounts of power, so that it can take the beating that i put it through. i mostly daily drive it and on occasion i take her to the canyons. and of course ur occasional "spirited" driving. thanks in advance and sorry if this has been covered before i would appreciate it if u could point me in the right direction.

Is there any benefit to do this? I have been looking into it just because of the nice plastic intake manifolds on the d17 i have now. Would switching to this help if/when I boost?

You're expecting bolt-ons to work on a D17... I think you're a bit confused as to what all went in to the design of this engine, and just how un-friendly it is to bolt-on performance gains.

i understand that and im not expecting massive amounts of power gain either. but from what ive read they do state that the car feels different. but of course they're not talking about direct bolt ons, as the y8 mani isn't necessarily a direct bolt on. im just looking for the car to not feel as sluggish while still keeping the d17 in the bay.

It may FEEL different but the powerband probably shifts without any real power being gained. This is typical for any 5th and 6th gen D-series with bolt-ons so I don't see why it would be any different for this engine.

Its entirely a result of the Placebo effect. If you wore some sort of full sound suppression head gear, and drive a car with/without the Y8 manifold... you wouldn't be able to tell them apart. Even if it netted you 5whp, the likeliness of you being able to notice that small amount of power is virtually impossible.

so there really is no way around boost or k swap. dam

If you do go with a turbo, there's no doubt a Y8 manifold will benefit your cause. They're much better with increased manifold pressure, then the factory plastic manifolds.
