My car is in the body shop getting repainted and I was wondering if I can trim the rear fender inner edges rather than rolling them?

Are there any issues with this? I'm just looking to trim ~0.50" for additional clearance, and figured if the car's getting repainted why not.

I would just roll the quarters instead of grinding away at them. You could cause a water leak that would allow rust to build if not sealed properly afterwards. But if you seal it real nice then I see no reall problem.

 

I will probably spray in rubber truck bed lining after its painted to seal everything and reduce stone road noise, as my car will be partially stripped in the interior.
