why dont my illuminas fit in the rear?????????/
i just bought a set of tokico illumina 5 way adjustables. I put the fronts on no problem. when i went to do the rear, i took one all the way apart and was putting everything on when i noticed that the shocks dont have a fork like fitment on the bottom like my stock ones. they have a circular piece with a hole in the middle for a bolt to go through. the only way i could get these things to fit is by getting a long bolt and nut and mounting the shock off center to the right or left of the lower control arm. i dont believe they should be like this. i checked the part numbers from many other web sites that carry these and they all say bu2799. these are labeled bu2799 on the box as well as being ingraved into the shock. so if these are apparently the right part number, how the hell are they suppose to fit????
those shocks are for a 1988, if your car is a 88 then someone has changed your lower control arms to 89+ style. Either get 89+ rear struts or 88 lower control arms.
why the expletive isn't this noted in the god damn chilton's manual. i knew that for some reason there were sets for 88 and sets for 89 + but when i looked it up in my manual it didn't say there was a difference. someone has apparantly changed all four of the hubs because its an 88 hf and i had to get 1.6 l axles to fit the front. the hubs are dx i believe, dx is engraved in the rear drums. would i be able to get 88 control arms and use them with 89 + dx hubs?
The control arms are completely interchangable (besides the one difference you've allready found). You can swap back in 88 CRX LCAs or ITR LCAs to use with those shocks.
thnks for the help i just got in my rear set of shocks for 89+ and it didnt even take a whole 45 mins to install. i would have gone with some itr lcas but it was cheaper to buy the 2 rears because i found them for 150 shipped at car domain.com and all the ITR Lcas i found were more than 200 a set. i didnt want to get the old 88 Lcas cause the controls that are on have been updated for a reason. now it if i could just get the money for those crx si rear trailing arms w/ disks.....and a new front end to replace the wrecked fenders.
