Just picked up this Midori 96 DX the other day. The motor is a 00 or 01 B18B (LS) w/ GSR tranny. The install is a complete hack and will be reworked.
The problems:
--Cold start RPM's shoot to 3k
--Cold idle surges from 1.5-2k as seen in the video above.
--Code 14 (IAC valve) came on tonight as the car stuttered when giving it throttle.
--Orange wire at IACV not connected to anything. The wiring is a complete hack job. The motor will be removed and rewired eventually.
--Speedometer does not work most of the time
--Gauge cluster lights will brighten a tad when you pass 3,000 RPM's
CEL has went on and off during driving since owning the car last week.
You can see the hack wiring as well as the loose orange wire in the following pic:

Thanks for any help
The orange wire is for the 3 wire IACV used on a D16Y7. A B18B uses a 2 wire IACV so the orange wire is unused and usually left hanging there.
To convert to a 2 wire IACV, you'd need to splice in a 2 wire IACV plug and repin your ecu's "A" plug like this:

*Read the second note about the orange wire*

Verified the wiring at the ECU. It's just how it's shown in the picture
Is it necessary to remove the screens when cleaning the IACV? We cleaned the IACV twice with carb cleaner, but did not remove the screens. The car does not shoot up to 3k anymore. I believe he said 1,500k now and then bounces at like 1k to 1,200k
Any other advice out there?

I never remove the screen when cleaning them and they always come out spotless and work fine so I don't think thats going to make a diffrence as long as it was cleaned good.
Check for vacuum leaks?
Do you have a picture of the throttle body? ( I don't think 95+ have an fitv but you said the swap was half assed so it's possible an older tb is on there.)
Try adjusting the air bleed screw?

Is it possible the IACV is bad? I'm not exactly sure what is going on inside the unit....

I'll try and get a pic of the throttle body posted.
Thanks for the input

what ecu are you running?
i had the same problem with my 96 hatch with 2 different ecus, one was a bad p28 and one was a chipped po6 but there was no chip in the ecu so it ran like that.

i got the same problem, with same engine and trany and ecu, my idle stays above 1400, ive been told it should be a vacum leak.............

might want to try a different ecu if you got one. just to see if its the ecu. if not it might be a vacuum leak. i had one of those too.

Not sure if the ECU has been touched or not. I don't think he cares to ask the previous owner since half the problems were not disclosed at the time of the trade.
Sneezin' is going to try and borrow a working stock ECU and see if that helps. Is there any other ECU's that can be used besides the P75?
Thanks again for all the help!!

when the car is at idle i think you should beable to hear a leak, im not sure. or if any old gaskets were used like for the intake manifold or throttle body then that could be the problem, that was a problem i had once. also read that if you spray carb cleaner around by any gaskets and it gets sucked in then thats a leak.

any obd-2 ecu should start the car.

i checked my car yesterday and i saw that there was no hoses behind the intake manifold, i dont know whats it called but im pretty sure that it needs those hoses. Does any one know where they go?
What is that picture above supposed to be? May have to save it to your hard drive and upload to PhotoBucket.
Oh damn new smilies

ive got them same issue.
similar car:
1992 civic hatch with 1995 b18b swap with 2000 civic si trans.
my idle bounces from 1500-2000 then when it warms up its perfectly at 850.
wtf!!??

You might want to look into this... I had the same problem

:edit: Sorry I did not see it was a 96 but maybe it will help anyways

SneezinCD5 had Thomas (1 Fly SI) look at the car and the problem seemed to be a loose wire at the ECU
When Sneezin traded his (pretty much) stock EG for this LS swapped EK the guy claimed no problems. Of course shortly after the trade the problems started. If the problem is solved and the motor checks out healthy after the compression and leakdown test, you defintitely got the better end of the deal
Anyone in the Savannah area needing help with a motor not running well, wire tucks, or a wire tuck harness 1 Fly SI is the one you want to get in touch with

Definitely, Thomas (1 fly si) really knows his $hit and was VERY helpful when it came to the wiring on my ECU plugs
. I am supposed to be getting one of his wire tucks done while I am here in Savannah. I will definitely post pictures of his work as I was very impressed with it
