My deck and clock won't turn on anymore when I start the car. It's a 92 civic. Checked the fuses, all good, even the one in the back of the deck, changed the accessories fuse anyways... Clock will turn on if I press the button that lets it turn on when the car is off, but no power to the clock when the cars off and resets everytime. Put a voltmeter across the power wires to the deck, and had 0v on the accessories cable and the battery 12v cable (yellow).. I'll have to double check, but thats what I remember..

It happened AFTER my interior lights fuse blew, I changed it, my lights work. Anyone have ANY ideas at all?

Check your backup fuse in your engine bay's fusebox

 

Are you referring to the fuse box located next to the battery? I can't find anything accesory located in there, but I did test all the fuses anyways, and everything came back alright.

I should also note that when the car is started, the clock turns on, but it resets after the car shuts off again. And it's also in the "lights on" mode (read: dim)

 

Top left 7.5A Backup Fuse.

 

Back-up fuse was blown. Who woulda thunk it... Thanks. New problem: Anytime I plug in my deck, it blows this fuse (I just blew about 3). Is my deck toast? Or do you think it's in the wiring?

Make sure there isn't any exposed wires in your radio harness.

 

Double/triple checked. no exposed wiring inside the harness itself... This means bad bad things for me, doesn't it?

 

Try putting a 10A fuse in the backup slot. If that blows, your deck could be toast. I still think a power wire is being ground somewhere.

 

Fair enough, I'll give it a shot. But if a power wire was being grounded, it shouldn't wait for the deck to be plugged in. I'm also thinking its the deck...

 

Umm, so when you plug in the deck, it pops? Or does it pop after you plug it in and turn it on?

 

Pops as soon as I plug the deck in... doesn't matter if it's turned on or not. I threw a 15a in place (that's what the deck recommended to fuse... I know it's stupid of me) and the deck mini-fuse blew... So I'm calling it a day on the deck... FYI (if you care) it's a panasonic CQ-C1333. entry level mp3 one... oh well.

 

Get a new deck is all I can think of.
