Default D16 Transmission

What other transmissions would work with a D16? I just bent a push rod on my D16 and I am getting a rebuilt one... the transmission is bad on the current one, so I decided to get something else. People tell me a B16 and a B18 transmission will work fine with it, is this true? I wanted to get one with an LSD, is there anything specific I should be looking for?

Ok first of all D16's or any modern honda four banger for that matter doesnt have push rods. Next the only tranny that is going to work with that engine is a d-series tranny so no a B16 tranny will not work.

I don't know what it's called... there is a banging noise when my engine starts. That's just what someone told me. What could be the problem then?

any 89-91 Civic/CRX manual trans will work. Si is the best. DX is next. STD 4 speed is worst.

88 works too but needs 21 spline clutch

I already have an SI transmission, the clutch is bad though... I heard you could put a B16 transmission on it... oh well.

Anyways, about this noise. When I attempt to start the car, it struggles to start at first. Once it finally starts, it makes a sort of knocking noise... Like something would be loose in one of the cylinders? idk.

is ur tranny bad or is the clutch? you dont need a new tranny because of a bad clutch. Your not going to get a d-series Limited Slip tranny, don't exist. You can however get an OBX deal to put in. Is it a ticking like valves, a knocking like bearings or what? details. details....

You likely spun a bearing and bent a "connecting" rod (not a pushrod) which also has likely ruined your bottom end and possibly even your cylinder head. so yes you probably need a new motor.

There are kits that allow a B-series tranny to fit onto a D-deries motors but it is SOOO overpriced and pointless as hell IMO when you can just buy a new Final drive for your D-series if you want shorter gears, or just buy an aftermarket LSD if you want one (still cheaper than B to D kit). Just stay with your Si tranny and get a new clutch and you'll be fine.

It's more of a knocking noise... not a ticking noise. As for the transmission, my clutch is bad and I just figured getting a whole new transmission would be cheaper and less labor. Since I need a new engine anyways...

What's this about a new final drive and LSD?

I never said "ticking" and your C Rod is bent for sure if your hearing knocking. WTF would you get a new tranny since your clutch went bad? Cheaper, WTF!?? your clutch has NO effect on the tranny condition and buying a new tranny still leaves your witha BAD CLUTCH and less money. You make no sense what so ever man, the tranny HAS to come off to replace the clutch, where exactly is the savings coming in?

I take back what I said about the LSD and final drive, just save yourself a migrain from thinking to hard and stick with your Si trans.

The people telling you that a b-series trans will work on a d-series should go masterbate with a belt sander. With luck it will rip their ***** off and we'll have less stupid kids to deal with in the future.

First off, bad knocking in your engine is usually a bad connecting rod bearing. Its cheaper to get a new shortblock when that happens to a D16. Any D-series will work, but only the 88-91 blocks will have all the right distributor. As for the clutch, a heavy duty clutch & flywheel is $450+, but a normal clutch is at most $200 for a decent stage1 organic full-face clutch. An Si trans goes for $200 w/o clutch around here, and $250+ for one that is verified to shift perfect. If your tranny works fine but it just needs a clutch, it will be no cheaper to replace the clutch, but will work for another 50,000 miles for sure.
