Default Cupping Tires. What could be the cause?

My steering wheel started to shake at high speeds, so I went to the tire place to have my wheels rotated and rebalance.
They let me know that my tires (Kumho Ecsta SPT -- 215/40/16) are starting to cup ( highs and lows on inside of tire). They said my lowered car was probably the reason for it. However, I've lowered a few cars and never had this problem.

My current set up is H&R Sport Springs with stock shocks and no camber kit. Is this spring too much for my stock shocks? Causing my car to hop and cup the tires? Or would my shocks just be going out?

I've had this setup for about a year. The stock shocks are more than likely the original ones from 2000 that have about 120,000 miles on them.

Let me know your thoughts!

Thanks!

Not enough air pressure maybe.

I'd bet those shocks are worn and are the cause. Cupping can be caused by out of balance wheels or bad shocks, among other things. Check your shocks to see if there's fluid leaking out of them.

Guy at Discount Tire told me cupping is due to unbalanced wheels.

damn can tires cup because of bad shocks? i have bad shocks right now....

I thought when i had cupped tires was because i did not have an alignment because i remember two of my tires were cupped and i believe it was the rear tires. The rears i did not get an alignment on.

First order of business, don't take your car to that shop anymore...I freakin' hate it when people blame car problems on the fact that it's modded just cause they have something against kids with modded cars. Your cupping isn't because the car is lowered...it's likely because of one of the above reasons...alignment, tire pressure, unbalanced tires, or bad dampers.

Check those out and take your car somewhere else. If they don't like people with modded cars, they're not going to do their best working on the car.

I had cupped/wavy tires on the rear caused by worn shocks. The mechanic said it was a common problem, fwiw.
