Default OBD2a OBD2b whats the difference?

Im going to be swaping a longblock in for a friend, he has a 96 Civic EX but the motor we are swaping in is out of a 99 Civic EX. Is there anything I need to switch over, or is the only difference in the ecu?

Thanks.

would it be possible to plug obd2a computer to obd2b harness and just have an adaptor for the B plug on obd2b and obd2a D plug?

wow that made my head spin. But no. Some of the pins have different locations, I believe.

Just use the 96 EX ecu.
You have to use the ECU that relates to the harness. 96-98 harness = OBD2A ECU.

99-00 harness = OBD2B ECU.

The sensor plugs are all the same shape. There are no additional sensors. Even if there were, you're using an OBD2A ECU.

To simplify: Just use the existing 96 EX harness and 96 EX ECU even if you are using a 99-00 motor.

Just use the existing 96 EX harness and 96 EX ECU even if you are using a 99-00 motor.
