Hello, I was driving my gf's car yesterday and the car threw a code P1456 emissions code. When the code was thrown the car ran fine, idled properly etc...So I i got the code ran and erased it using the obdII scanner. And hoped that it was only my fuel cap not being tight enough, so i tightened it and went on with my business.

Now When the car is at idle at a stop at either Drive or Park, the car seems to be at very low idle, like it wants to shut down, sometimes shaking. I'm not sure what is going on, the code is gone, but could it be somethign other than the gas cap?

Anyone have this problem before that fixed it?


ALSO, will faulty gas cap cause the car to shake, idle low?

No, a loose gas cap will not cause the engine to shake. Your problem could be a dirty air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs. maybe the car needs a tune up.

 

jus gave teh car a tune-up earlier this year. cap/rotor, spark plugs, replaced engine oil...

I checked the throttle cable and the 2nd position holder came out of it's place, thus causing the car to idle unproperly, and I also picked up an oem gas cap from the dealer for 14.95 (rip off). Hopefully the cel doens't come back, and the idle doesn't fluctuate unexpectedly again.
