Default Harnesses....

Hey guys,

I just picked up a set of Black JDM Recaros thanks to Andy, "Akhom".. They are very nice, and I would like to now invest in some harnesses. I would like to stay with Four point, and am debating between Takata, Sabelt, and Simpson.. What do you all think? Which are better?

No roll cage yet... and yes, I know everyone advises not having harnesses until you have a roll cage, but I don't have all the money for both yet.

Takata is nice.but wayyyyyy too expensive. Just pick up a set of simpson or anything else like sparco, it will do the same job if not better.

So you going to attach them to the seat?

If you don't have money for harnesses and a rollbar, then don't bother. An Autopower 4-pt bar is only $250 or so. If you are actually considering spending $450 on a Takata harness, why not spend $250 on a rollbar and $150 on a Sabelt 6-pt. Don't get a 4-point-- in a crash you will submarine (slide under the lapbelt).

I have heard of that all before... My main question is which is the best brand to get for the money.

Whatever 6-pt is cheapest at Racer Wholesale right now.

Why do you want a harness now, if you're planning on getting a rollbar or cage eventually?

I just checked their website, what is the difference between "pull-up" and "pull-down" harnesses...?

The manner in which you tighten the harnesses. Think about which direction you'd like to pull to tighten.

are the other cheaper brands just as good? I mean the price is all in the name right?

BTW...Sabelt and Sparco harnesses are the same???

1 Fast R: Why the 4point? Might get some sumbarining.

If you decide to get a cage, go with a Cusco one. They are very light weight compared to Autopower. Are you planning to track your car now?

Will someone please tell me what's different about this harness compared to the Sabelt/Sparco? The price always astounds me.

As for the 4pt harness, you'll regret it. I have autocrossed in a car with a 4pt harness, and it just plain sucks. You can't tighten the shoulder harnesses without pulling the lap belt into the middle of your stomach (I don't care how tight you have the lap belt, it can't be done). They just suck. Naturally, this is just my opinion.

BTW, my vote is for the $109 6pt Sabelt at RW.com 3" belts, cam lock, fresh FIA tags, 6pts. What more do you need?

Its JDM and its green...
I agree that Sabelt, Sparco, and Simpson will work just as well for less. If F1 teams that have millions of dollars use Sabelt, then its good enough for me.

Takata? man, I'm asstounding by how some people just waste money on here.

Get the sabelts from racer wholesale.. and get the 4pt autopower rollbar from ioportracing.com. Together, you have the same price as a takata harness.. but you'll actually have a functional setup..

exactly.

WHY would you even want a 4pt harness?

and if you dont have the money for a rollbar yet , DONT put the harness in

you could suffer serious injuries just from not being patient till you have the money for both

Buy a Rollbar, then get a harness.

Ok, in regards to a roll bar for the street.. I am not looking for a 6 pt full out race roll cage.. but rather more protection in case I get into a collision and roll... What bars are out there, that I don't have to sacrifice my rear speakers for, or mess up my interior?

You're going to have to cut something. You can keep the rear speakers if you move them, but you'll have to punch a round hole for the rollbar in rear plastic stuff.

If you're not willing to do this, then just drop the whole harness idea. Harnesses have no place in a car w/o at least a rollbar. And for god's sake, don't waste your money on a 4 point.
