I'd say close to $1000. I'd pay $800 but I have a place to do bodywork/paint/swap

What's the extent of the damage to the engine? If you could salvage anything for a little money, there are people out there that could pay up to $1000 for the chassis/body alone, depending on what it means to them. Heck, if it's a coupe and I was doing a side project ( as I hope to be doing in the next couple of years), I know I'd pay $500-1000 for the chassis.

Well then you KBB'd it wrong. When I was shopping for Civics, a '95 EX in excellent running condition with decent body and paint was worth between $2800 and $3300.
